Population

Sofresh

Dalayan Beginner
so i haven't played in quite some time thinking of starting up again have limited time so curious how the population is now at all lvl ranges

I logged in last like 3-4 months ago and it was under 300 at prime time.

well that sucks should have figured it would just keep going downward since the last time i played

We're due for an account drive soon which might get the peak pop back over 200 for a bit. I think the only realistic way the population increases is with an influx of eqemu people when we get the new client but that's far from certain so we'll have to wait and see.

I bet some people come back with the new client release too.

Which makes you wonder why account drive is only a once a year thing.

I am kind of lurking on the forums waiting for the client update to happen and do not think that I am alone.

To answer your question: less than whenever you played. The problem with SoD is that its been a great game forever, it was great when i played in 2005, and only better now, its always been an amazing game, it just doesn't do enough to get players. The main core of people that would invest in this is the eqemu crowd, we're not going to get a ton of non eq users coming here, we need to establish a presence there, or we're going to keep declining and will eventually die. To sum up, the problem is not this game, this game has been amazing for nearly a decade, the problem is we need to get new blood and need to get on the eqemu scene at all costs, otherwise fuck it, we're not going to get enough players to make this worth while, no matter how great the game.

We are at a critical state right now. Red lights, alerts, horns, etc. If we decline much further the game isn't going to be mass multi player anymore. It will still be fun to play if we don't get new people, but only until you hit 65. Post 65 you will be doing 1 group content only...
Many of us have been hoping 2.5 really helps the game in terms of new blood.

Edit - Anyone who says we are not at critical mass right now is flat out wrong. In my opinion the priority should be to get a version of 2.5 released if we are close, get on EQemu, fix any of the glaring class balance issues and bugs to help both new and old players and improve moral, fix some of the end game item complaints from vet players that are causing itemization issues, etc. The goal would be to fix all the horrible client related bugs so everyone can play without key lock and crashes, get new blood because even old players would like this, then focus on game fixes and vet player retention, followed by content expansion.

not to talk shit or anything but are you even playing at all? i havent seen you online in ages (i havent played in about 2 weeks but i did play for a bit before that.

I know you said under 300, but I've not seen over 200 in months.....

Prime time I see 150ish on average.

Nebi....about 6 or 7 posts above, Daffie SAID he logged in. Not sure if you caught that or not.

Daffie logs on once in a while but RL is kinda important compared to video games unless you're funemployed or Just Don't Care.

Either way the points are still valid.

I was logged in last and grouped with Masuriya for a few hours bull shitting and doing his murk spell quests. I was partying in NOLA for the last week... I had been on maybe 2 days the week before that, and the week before that I was in a forever pug for half the night in PoN + 1 night of farting around with quests trying to get Galelor's alignment out of the toilet (which failed.)

Honestly, I will most likely be on tonight if I don't go see a movie. I might even drag Gegen on for a little bit if I can pull him away from Diablo 3 and masturbation. Gegen said some goons are back doing Diablo 3 again since the latest update release?

My life of raiding anything but pugs in EQ is most likely over. I just can't commit x days at x time due to owning a company and literally working myself to death.

Edit - I did see someone on the big man last night. No reply when I said hello in /gu.

I will refrain from posting my personal opinions, but I guess everything just runs its course. There were some MAJOR changes awhile back that ran off the top 3 guilds and probably dropped avg. population substantially. I won't elaborate. Generally though with all games, things go from "because of" to "in spite of." If you enjoy yourself, play. If you don't, don't.

However, we all saw what eqemu server list did for p99, and we hope to be there soon, so it's not far fetched that were that to happen, it could result in a massive influx, which would certainly be exciting.

Back after around a year of a break. I was really hoping to see more progress on the new client and being listed on eqemu. But I am glad things are still trucking along.

This game is dead, about 2 or 3 years ago when the population was peaking at over 500, I explained why it was going to die, you couldn't handle what I was saying so ignored me and IP banned me. Now it is dead, but it deserves to be anyway, Wiz was a total asshole but at least he knew how to modify this in to a good game. Sadly he left the game to people who were assholes without even knowing how to make a good game. You ignored things that needed to be done, and instead implemented countless features that weren't needed and made the game worse, and you focused everything on the tome grinds and raid content for no lifers to sleepily sit through, epeen in hand, and new players were faced with a long boring lonely grind, yet one which is dumbed down, with a community of total pricks who are allowed to be pricks because that's how the hive mind here works. Like I said before, when the devs are pricks and the GM's are pricks, the players will become pricks to fit in, and the players who aren't pricks will not want to play with you.

You killed your own server, and it was avoidable too, but that's to be expected when the entire dev team are arrogant pricks. Any new players should try p99 or projectEQ if you like to box. There are a few new servers that have recently started too, keep an eye out on the EQ Emulator Server List, that's where the real none-arrogant-prick servers live.

p.s. It's funny to see Krugz still posting. I remember I quit SoD for a couple of years and when I returned I started playing some mid level characters to ease back in. I was in Eldenals when Krugz showed up and killed every mob in the zone even though he saw me. When I told him I was hoping to XP there and I had been there for an hour, he was a total cunt to me for no reason. When scum players like that kiss up to the right people and become part of the SoD clique, and then you add tomes and charms and expect people to farm 1 million + plat, are you really surprised when the supply of new players stops completely? I also remember one of the last threads I read (on the section you no longer have?), there was a bunch of people referring to "fucking Eurofags". Basically, you did all the right things to limit your server's appeal and kill it slowly.

SABOTA IS THAT YOU?!

I can confirm Krugz is a scummy guy and a total player hater and didn't do anything kind with all the retirement plat I gave him. #KrugzWarfiendKilledShartsofDalaya
