Poisoner's Crucible (& probably other ranged damage) broken?

I did some tests using toshie's crucible and here's what I found.

Avg damage after 1280 piercing attempts w/o crucible: 67
Avg damage after 1119 slashing attempts w/o crucible: 66

Avg damage after 958 piercing attempts w/ crucible: 65
Avg damage after 825 slashing attempts w/ crucible: 70

These were done against the ancient darkwood trees just outside of eldenals, with empower and focus as my only melee buffs.

I know there has been long debate about whether or not any ranged damage add actually works, and it seems there has never really been any conclusion to that debate. Has anyone else noticed similar results? Can we have some dev resolution?

I remember something a GM said a year or so back about dmg such as "Bane damag arachnid: 5" not having any effect unless your weapon already had arachnid damage :/ Don't know if this is the same issue or not.

On Cless, I get marked increases of maximum backstab damage against humanoids with my Idol of Manslaughter (Bane DMG: Humanoid +2). I also remember improved damage on max backstabs with lower damage piercers and the Poisoner's Crucible (Poison DMG: 1), but not well enough to feel as certain it's working as well.

TBH though, I pretty much just use my Severed Black Tongue for the +2% crit strike and Aura of Battle that I can always rely on.

The way I understand it, Bane DMG from non-weapons should affect any weapon. As far as I know, though, elemental damage from non-weapons, including non-weapon range slot items, isn't/wasn't set up to apply to any weapon damage.

If elemental damage was set up to add to your attacking weapon from gear, it seems like it'd be pretty easy to stack a massive amount of elemental damage as a ranger. I have quite a few items (boots, gloves, melee weapons) with +fire, +disease, +cold and such. It'd get pretty crazy if I could add another 30 varied elemental damages on top of Flarewynd's current ratio.

I'll test it out again with pure backstabbing.

Attempts w/o crucible:
142 backstabs: avg non-crit 1226

Attemps w/ crucible:
162 backstabs: avg non-crit 1224

You should check those logs and see what your highest non-crit backstab was with/without the crucible. If it's "working" and you can get higher backstabs with the crucible than without, cool. If it's hardly affecting your DPS, then it may be not be working "as intended".
