Please advise!

Hi! I have been trying to work faction for newport and found out that there is a maximum number of times you can do a quest there (ratman hoods and rat tails). I have heard that there is great faction in doing scout quests or crops but have no clue where to do scouts or who to talk too. Crop quest paid me but that was all, no faction at all.

Is there such a thing as a guide to factions? I really want to get it up there so I can do the newport ring (another thing I know nothing about) and port amulet. Surely there are others in need of some basic info.

Please list some ideas with NPC and how much faction can be done with it. Thank you in advance!

There's a great writeup about Newport faction on The Concert Hall forums (bard's message board) here.

You can do the ring quest at any non-KOS faction I believe, and it gives good faction hits to help you toward your amulet.
