Playing as a Monster

Hey Guys, remember that cool feature from pvp servers on EQlive way back when? You could be low lvl mobs from various zones and play as that monster. The feature was really nifty and you get to use all of the monsters loot and such, but you cant loot mobs/PCs that you kill, or keep the "charactor" I was wondering if anything like this could ever/would ever be considered for implementation, or maybe the ability to be various NPC style charactors? My thought on that idea was that by completing huge and "epic" like quests with one of your charactors you would receive a reward that you could use with a GM to allow your account to create a charactor for you with a certain skin/abilities. My idea on that was that you would get a couple minute "powers" for the skin to make you a little unique, but no wheres near overpowered. All of the models you cuold use for this quest version would have to be multi-zone models like gnolls(disease proc maybe?) and drakes (Fire proc or clicky ability?) Specters(inate life taps) and anythign allong those lines. I think that either of these ideas would make for a really fun and alternative style of play for those people who would play an NPC for RPing purposes or value the look and uniquness of a Mobs "skin" and abilities to warrant such a hard quest for the chance to be one...just a thought =D

I remember that... Was called the M project or something like that. If I remember right they took it out because once the newness of it wore off it served only to grief low level players.

Was cool though

Exact name was "Project M". And they took it out because it temporarily ruined EQ =P. Specifically, there were a ton more users online all at once, including players who had left EQ. This taxed their networks and servers. Secondarily, a good count of folks weren't on playing/levelling/tradeskilling/raiding/improving the economy, etc. They were out farting around as bugs and spiders and having fun, not griefing others all the time (sure, some did, not all). I even saw some mob v mob fights. When I did my bug's life, as it were, it was the only PvP I ever had fun with, heh.

Also, the eq devs couldn't see their way past level 1-5 mobs. There were scared folks would level up a Naggy type dragon or what have you. (If you recall, you could level up the bug or mob you played)

Anyways, I still think it'd be a nice idea, if used sparingly. Maybe a GM event where they picked 6 non-GM players to group up and be a terrorizing team of orcs or whatever, and the rest of the folks at the event would have the task of purging the lands of said miscreants...

The mobs themselves were useless (as they had PC stats, not NPC stats), and it wasn't on PvP servers, but rather on Test.

It was a novel idea, but ultimately novelty always wears off.

it was

It was on the PvP server I played on for a bit... never played the test server and it was pretty cool stuff

would make for a fun alternative some night : )

I recall that feature, I had so much fun with that  I recall rolling a black wolf in Nektulos and helping a newbie Dark-Elf level up, we managed to communicate through a highly complex code, one jump for yes, two jumps for no :p

Most fun though was rolling mobs that could cast spells, for instance I remember several people rolling madmen Druids in Oasis and having a massive free for all

It went beyond test for about a week or so, Mel. I did my buglife on Bristlebane.

And truth be told, I'd probably rather it not be done here. But I did give an interesting idea for a GM event.

Food for thought. Enjoy the meal.

MPC was one of the most fun things ever implemented on live, but it would ruin WR, and it should not be implemented. The end.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!...

The "newness" as you call it never got to wear off as it was cancelled the same day it got introduced. I remember this crystal clear as I was playing on a PVP server at the time and was *really* enjoying the feature.

They never did give any reasons for cancelling it as far as I know... but I know for a *fact* that griefing was not one of them.

That is all.
