Play Nice

Since live there has been a play nice policy, and the policy has been that he who engages the mob first has rights to the mob. Since live most people have just gone ahead and aknowledged/respected people's rights to a 'camp' even though camps don't officialy exist

The only time anyone every uses the play nice policy is when it's an excuse to be a jerk and kill your name in front of you while you med to kill it. Isn't it about time to revise this rule?

seems the opposite of playing nice, always has

There is no "Play Nice" policy here just like there are no "camps." You aren't entitled to any mobs unless you're raiding and cleared to it. Some people will avoid confrontation and let you be but some won't. You just have to live with it.

How is a mob "yours" if you aren't doing anything but looking at it? I wish the same logic worked for parking spaces.

I'm not sure I understand your post.
In SoD camps are not recoginized by GM's. However, most people are nice enough to leave an area if they see someone there or if you send them a tell to let them know you were there first. Likewise, when a person leaves the area that camp is now open, ie. someone was hunting giants and they went to sell, they can't expect the person to give up the giants just because they came back. Occassionally, you'll have people fight you for hill giants, ice giants or other camps that are good for loot. Those people know they are being jerks but they do it anyway because they don't care. In my years of playing this game, I think I have only come across jerks like this 10 or so times.
With 250-350 people on the server there is plenty of room for everyone.

The main point you can really make as to whether people will actually respect other players, is the fact that we are a small to medium community. Like it was said earlier 200-400 people online generally means that you aren't among thousands and thousands of players. If you act like a dick on a regular basis it can much more easily be known to a large percentage of the server base.

Sure, it can be countered with a secret alt that no one knows is attached to you as a player so your main will be safe from your antics... But that's also half the point. Most players won't go around "stealing" camps or mobs, as it is a common courtesy that a lot of players hold true. It cannot reasonably be enforced unless all claims were posted with unedited video footage and you can provide proof that it wasn't altered to prove your claim. And even then it might not matter...

Just gotta take everything with a grain of salt and always have a plan B as to what you can be doing with your time. Every once in a while someone will come along that doesn't have the patience to change thier plans, or just feel like annoying someone. It's an inevitable consequence of sharing pixels and polygons with hundreds of people.
