Planned Maintenance

If there is planned maintenance of the server, and it is indeed planned ahead of time as the name implies, there should be a thread that lists when these times will be.

That is all, thank you.

Nah.

So you're going to provide some information to back up your point, right? I mean, it'd suck to lose the ability to post in Suggestions and Requests because you thought it'd be hilarious to post a shitty one word response without any reason aside from apparently trolling.

No but really why not have a post? And whatever happened to patch wed?

Except the rules don't apply to us and never have. Oops. Anyways, Ill explain all the same: Because we don't have to.

Pretty simple, really.

Planned maintenance generally doesn't mean planned days in advance, because we're all on pretty unstable schedules. We let you know that there's planned maintenance coming at the same time we decide on when we're gonna do it, which might only be a short bit in advance.

Balthor, explain why I shouldn't jail your ass for being a dick to staff for no reason?

Alright, fair enough. To be more user-friendly though, can there be a few hours of warning, or could non-critical updates be delayed until off-peak hours? SoD is generally raid-free during 4-8 AM PST, for instance.

this has been brought up multiple times, and the answer every time has been that they will do maintenance whenever it is convienent for them, sucks that your raid got effected but it happens to everyone

Foma literally works whenever he can for us. Unfortunately, We can't accomodate the raid game when it comes to our planning. We never have and we never will. It's just one of those things.

(On an offnote, I just editted your post instead of quoted. Whoops.)

plus they did give us some notice and the update didn't catch us in the middle of an attempt  :toot:

And yeah, thanks for giving the whole story, whereby our latest planned maintenace was both delayed (I was ready to do it immediately, Saturday) and then announced all over in game, irc, forums. Wiz was instant with his "nah, wait a bit even though it's critical" just to be nice to the playerbase.

I'd say he and the rest of staff do all we can to NOT fudge your FREE playtime. There are several that work on some aspect of the game pretty much nonstop. Por nada. So any amount of whine or fuss pretty much doesn't jive with any of us.

Feel free to go start your own server, code it as well as Wiz has, fund it yourself for years...I could go on. Or, just shuttup works too.

Back to the thrust of the thread, the exact answer is that everyone on staff either has a full-time job or is a full-time student, etc. We cannot plan out many actions days, weeks or months in advance. Usually hours to days warning is phenominal. Sure, in a real company, with paid employees, lots of investment and all day to work on these things, we'd sit down on a conference room, brainstorm, plan it all out, set milestones and deadlines and have lots of management and staff help for all to share.

It's just us, at the moment. Someone hire me a secretary, gorgeous blonde, who makes stunning coffee. Oh and wiz wants a spare coder. And liam was asking for a 10x8 scanning whiteboard. That should do it for now.
