Ping 800+

I am in Japan, so im sure this has something to do with it, but i get ping around 100 consistently in eq live. On WR my ping bounces between 400, 800 and 1200, usually sitting at 800 something. Is there something i can do to get better ping? I am using A-DSL connection. Otherwise guess I will just have to suffer until i move back to the states in a few months.

I've seen suggestions a few times to try " /cmd datarate n" where n i ssome arbitrary number. I don't know the details of this command...but there are a few other posts about it
