pickpocketting

well, I like to group with rogues, but recently discovered how easily they could rob the mobs blind.. I didn't mind the coins, but I really miss the 100pp+ items that seemed to be lacking when I grouped for hours with the rogue.

here's what i'm asking for: would it be possible to add a message that other players can get when you pickpocket something? something along the lines of "Wiz reaches his hand into mob's pocket and steals an item!" .. you could argue that since rogues are sneaky, they wouldn't be caught by you or the mob, if so, could you at least add a message to pickpocket fails, so it's harder for rogues to lie and say "i'm not stealing" while making out like a bandit and taking the loot away from the 5 other people in their group?

I think the suggestion has merit. If you fail, it'll show to others now.

I wish good luck to the young rogues who want to practice their pickpocket skill :( . Peolple will be warned each time their attempt fails, and it 'll fail A LOT untill they reach the famous rank of master (I mean 200+ skill, because at 100 u still loot crap and fail 70% o' the time).
Unless they don't raise this skill, most of my fellow rogues will be kicked off groups. I know there are other ways to pickpocket , with NPCs in city for example but ... it makes this skill harder than it is already (and I can tell you it's a real pain to skill up).

I loved this skill, making me even more roguish and evil (yeah I like to roleplay ). I thought it was a secret skill , and now rogues can't keep it secret. I understand the fact that mobs might be aware if you fail stealing (giving u more aggro) but I'd like you to explain how a player would know about something he can't see because he's fighting, casting spells or meditating.

Now with teh nerf (can I call it a nerf ?) , I'll simply just not use it anymore, because troubles would come too fast

I ask you Wiz to make this skill efficient in any way.
You're doing a great job, more people are coming to the server , and I wish WR the best.

PS: Why is there no Throwing dummy in Newport ? :sadf:

Haha Yona! Im going to take a guess and say you were the one that bluetequila posted this suggestion in regards to. Dont let something like this change your determination to rip everyone else off! Im not going to change my evade/steal hotkey and the people I group with know it. (Ive never tried to lie about pickpocketing.) And so hopefully we can all :finger: @ bluetequila and pick the mobs clean anyway. (Because it is not as if he did not know before when mobs have 1 copper.) :p

Dont make it so that you can see when a rogue fails, how about tell when they suceed? Would solve all problems IMO. As in:

Yona has snatched a shortsword from A Skeleton

Yona has snatched 8 copper from Yaladwen (OK...So I am not a mob, oh well!)

I mean, come up with a better message, but you get the idea. That way you can practice with no embarassment! I mean, ideally, you should be able to enter the mobs inventory with a sucessful pickpocket attempt, that way, you could just choose not to take anything, and keep trying to build skill. However, I am about 96.5% sure this cant be done.

My reasoning is this: The rogue can explain they will be raising pickpocket skill to their group, and then, if they ever suceed, they can just split the money/items with the group later, and they cant steal it all because the group will know about it at least. IMO it would lessen stress and embarassment.

A rogue splitting pickpocket's possessions ?? OMG ! If I see a rogue doing that , I'll just ignore him for the rest o' my days

And Ponden , roflmao, you definitely got the point !

Anyway , I'm gonna make myself some bad reputation . Prepare the /ignore command WR citizens, I'm incoming :D

Sure it goes with RPing, but come on Yona, you dont think it would be a little unfair if you got all coin / jewels from the mobs in a group? Tsk tsk tsk thats just colt hearted. Not all rogues are portrayed as 'evil' IMO.

yeah but some are evil. or not even evil, they just dont care about anyone but themselves (unlawful nuetral?? bah)

probably no way to differentiate between the two, but for RP purposes, it'd be ideal that there would be no fail message unless the mob takes notice. that way if the rogue fails simply cuz they found an empty pocket, but are still slippery enough to not be caught or seen, the attempt remains hidden.

That's how it is now.

Have you ever seen a thief asking if he could steal or not ? ;)

Have you ever seen a thief who could never, ever, possibly be noticed by other people?

Ever pick pocket players on Sullon Zek?

You'd have a few levels of results. It's been a while, but I think they were...

You slip your hand into XXXX's pocket, and steal YYYY.
You slip your hand into XXXX's pocket, and feel cold cool coins at the tip of your fingers. Close!
You fail to slip your hand into XXXX's pocket.
You fail to slip your hand into XXXX's pocket, and they feel a tug on their clothes!

Basically just saying that a critical failure system would be good. Don't know how the system you implimented works, wiz, so I'm probably pissing up a rope.

But have you ever seen a thief who got caught every time he made a mistake?

Sigh.

There IS a critical failure system already.

If you fail the mob might notice you. If mob notices you so do all players naerby.
