Pets and Items

Dalayan Beginner
Hi all, some questions about pets and items:

1> If I give weapons to my pet, can I later replace those weapons with different weapons without losing the pet? In Live, there seemed to be a hierarchy based on weapon delay (equipped weapon replaced if newer one has a lower delay).

2> If I am giving weapons to a pet that dual wields, which hand (main or offhand) does the first weapon go into?

3> Which armor slots can pets take advantage of? And is this the same for all pets?

4> Are pets affected by level/class/race/deity restrictions on items?

Some other pet questions, not related to items:

Buffing Dex in a player affects chance to hit. I know that Dex doesn't increase procs here, but if I buff my pet's Dex, will it hit more, in general?

I know pets can't be buffed with additional HP, but since buffs that add HP plus other effects seem to land normally, is it safe to assume that the other effects of the buffs (whether they be AC, +ATK, etc) function normally?

Are Beastlord pets a true warrior class? I know they taunt, kick and bash, but it has been speculated that, although they will use any type of weapon, they might hit less often with 1HS and 2HS, because Beastlords don't have those skills.

And finally:

Is there any listing of levels for the various pets? For example, what mob level is the level 54 Beastlord pet, etc. I know they are different here than on Live.

Thanks

About the weapons:

From what I have noticed, giving your pet a weapon whose damage is less that your pet's base damage (from a Necro's experience) has not had any effect on average parsed dps. Giving your pet a weapon with a higher damage than it's base damage seems to increase its parsed dps slightly, but my margin of error was way to big for the data I collected, also I haven't had much testing with that since its rather expensive to find weapons with higher damage than the relic necro pet. I have not noticed any class/race restrictions for my pet, but then again I havent consciencly given him any caster/hybrid/monk/etc only weapons, but I have never had a weapon rejected from him other than for primary/secondary restrictions.

When giving a pet a weapon the first always goes to the mainhand unless its a secondary only weapon, in which case it goes to the secondary slot (duh)

For the most part I have never noticed any statistical difference when my pet has lots of armor on, nor any significant difference with a good amount of +dex from buffs or items. I assume, however, that they would gain the same benefit from stat buffs that players do, but since there stats are so low compared to the stats of similar level players the benefit is not immeditally represented in the statistics.

As for the levels of pets, I recall it being something like 4-6 levels below you after a certain point, but I can't recall. Next time you are in SNP ask a few different level ranges to con your pet and we can start compiling some statistics.

I know that a lvl 54 BL pet is a level 49 warrior. Thanks Jayla's Insight!

One more question to add to your list.

I recall reading recently that delay has no effect, that pets are ment to hit so often.
However once your pet can duel wield (fight with both hands) does a 2 hander then reduce those number of attacks?

good health to you all

From ToK:

Pets have a fixed delay
pets have a set amount of attacks so making it wield two weapons is only good for increasing its amount of procs.

So does this mean that haste is useless on them? :-/ Also, I've always thought that giving pets mage summoned haste rings didn't work as it's not "armor". Can anyone confirm this?

I was told that you could give mage pets both rings, and before the change, the searfire neck and have it utilize the effects (without them poofing when you log). I haven't tested out augmenting the searfire to something and then giving it to my pet (now that the searfire has been changed to an aug).

That's a pretty good idea. I always use to give my pet a Searfire neck even though I didnt know if it used it or not. Now I can just buy/farm some cheap cloth or leather armor and give it to Chipotle. :p

Thanks for that link, but I had read that post in that thread before asking my questions, none of which are answered there.

And the reason I asked about which hand the first weapon goes into on a pet that dual wields was that I had noticed on Live that if the weapon wasnt PRI restricted, it would drop into secondary first. It's hard to tell with a Beastlord pet, because unless illusioned, they don't even display weapons.

Now another question: If a pet will hit just as often with 2 1H weapons as it will with a 2H weapon, can you give them 2 2H weapons? I doubt that will be the case, but I guess I could test this by killing my current pet and making a new one and giving it a 2HB and a 2HS and checking the combat messages.

2H weaopns are always Primary, so if they can't equip a Secondary 1H weapon in the Primary slot, my bet is that they will not equip 2 2H weapons.

Pets used to be able to dualwield 2 handers but that was fixed months ago. As for ratio swapping mine sure doesnt like switching when I cast a blade of power over the summoned daggers.
