Pet inventory questions

I read a thread about the lack of a way to view a pet's inventory (http://forum.shardsofdalaya.com/showthread.php?t=14544&highlight=pet+inventory), and I have a few related questions. I'm hoping that someone here can help. I don't mind the lack of an in-game method of viewing a pet's gear if I can at least keep track of it on a slip of paper.

What inventory slots does a pet have?

If an item can fit in more than one inventory slot, and those slots are available, which slot is used when I give a pet that item? Is it by the order of the slots on the item description?

If I give a pet an item, and the pet has no open inventory for that item, does the pet give the item back?

Learning is fun. Thank you for the well-formed and helpful post, Wesell. Thanks also for reminding me about the General Information thread.

One thing I'm not sure about, is what happens when I give a pet an item for a slot it already has filled. For example, if I give a pet a wrist item when it already has items in both wrist slots, what happens? I can test whether I get the original item back. If I don't get the item back, which writst item is eaten? I'm guessing the third item that won't fit, but I'm not sure how I can test this.

Pet eats it. Same with slots it can't equip, items it can't use, etc., it doesn't return it, it's just gone.

Trust me, I know I'm not the only one who has accidentally handed their pet something instead of another char or NPC.... pets get hungry!
 
I thought I was done asking questions about this.
The summoned haste ring is a finger item. Will it go into the pet's haste slot?

Once Tacotown had a mantle of the forest. I rejoiced, there was much weeping on the part of the people that gave it to him though.
