It seems I'm never quick enough to respond to some people's gripes about SoD and the server admins. Sometimes I think people just want something to complain about or stir up the pot. I know because I work with tons of people who do that all the time. Sometimes it's exciting too. But the main thing is here, I see a few people who complain about the server admins and what they do/don't do, whatever the case may be.
I'm curious for all those out there who like or dislike whatever it is they think/know/wish the admins would do...
But I have to admit, the amount of time they spend to make changes, improvements, and provide a game that people can play for free is excellent. I notice some people hate it because, as they say, they show favoritism for certain guilds or people. I have a distinct feeling though that if any of you could have made a game like this and a server, wouldn't you twink out your friends and family too for fun? I know I would, why wouldn't you? Sure it might get boring for a while, but it's always fun for a bit at least.
But with all this stuff ... really ... who cares? These guys may have their own personalities, their own wants and needs. They might not even care about you, the person sitting at the other end of the computer, or whether you play the game or not. The point is, they are allowing other people, and you, to play this game for free. Bandwidth isn't free, server hardware isn't free. I am a server admin, so I know this.
I loved Everquest, I played it for years. I still feel it's one of the best core designed, classic, RPG's of our time. It's what the classic RPG style was all about. Most new games today have gotten away from those core classic MUD, Pen and Paper, RPG's that a lot of us grew up with. The reason why I stopped playing Everquest was because I bought a house and couldn't afford at $15 a month fee. This server solves that problem, and I don't care if John Smith logs on and is given the armor of the gods from Jesus himself, I'm still going to play with my friends and have fun. I like the challenge of the game and I love the changes that have made this "EQ" style experience much better than the original.
Just my thoughts ... remember everyone is entitled to their opinion. You may flame me if you wish, I can take the heat ... no pun intended.
