People's Gripes from Locked Threads

It seems I'm never quick enough to respond to some people's gripes about SoD and the server admins. Sometimes I think people just want something to complain about or stir up the pot. I know because I work with tons of people who do that all the time. Sometimes it's exciting too. But the main thing is here, I see a few people who complain about the server admins and what they do/don't do, whatever the case may be.

I'm curious for all those out there who like or dislike whatever it is they think/know/wish the admins would do...

But I have to admit, the amount of time they spend to make changes, improvements, and provide a game that people can play for free is excellent. I notice some people hate it because, as they say, they show favoritism for certain guilds or people. I have a distinct feeling though that if any of you could have made a game like this and a server, wouldn't you twink out your friends and family too for fun? I know I would, why wouldn't you? Sure it might get boring for a while, but it's always fun for a bit at least.

But with all this stuff ... really ... who cares? These guys may have their own personalities, their own wants and needs. They might not even care about you, the person sitting at the other end of the computer, or whether you play the game or not. The point is, they are allowing other people, and you, to play this game for free. Bandwidth isn't free, server hardware isn't free. I am a server admin, so I know this.

I loved Everquest, I played it for years. I still feel it's one of the best core designed, classic, RPG's of our time. It's what the classic RPG style was all about. Most new games today have gotten away from those core classic MUD, Pen and Paper, RPG's that a lot of us grew up with. The reason why I stopped playing Everquest was because I bought a house and couldn't afford at $15 a month fee. This server solves that problem, and I don't care if John Smith logs on and is given the armor of the gods from Jesus himself, I'm still going to play with my friends and have fun. I like the challenge of the game and I love the changes that have made this "EQ" style experience much better than the original.

Just my thoughts ... remember everyone is entitled to their opinion. You may flame me if you wish, I can take the heat ... no pun intended.

Excellent post, it fully succeeds on a variety of levels.

In before angry denials or happy, short quips. I wonder which it'll be? It's like waiting for Christmas

Edit-- if you don't agree then think back on what capital-G Game was like back in the day, and how the company that owned Game was, and compare to here.

You know what? I think I'll keep score! Will this thread be about what the OP seemed to intend, or will it derail into endless denials of what was no doubt supposed to be a minor part of his post?

Denials......Happy

I'm not yet high enough to hang in these circles, but from what I HAVE seen, I don't get the feeling that the staff twink out or show favoritism at all. Look at the Trading section, and you'll see admins are right there with everyone else trying to buy rare spells. They may have very good gear and such, but it seems to me that comes from putting so much time into their characters and have spent so much time raiding (after all, they have been here since the beginning). The folks who keep making favoritism accusations always seem to come off as griefers when enough of the facts are revealed.

Just the view from an up-and-coming...

I've been playing for two years, and am not active enough to care for favoritism to a guild or people. And twinking alts isn't really my bag, since I find it takes away from the fun for me. That's just me personally, though.

My characters have pretty shitty gear. I never have time to play. :(

We don't twink out friends. Seriously, we don't.

My point wasn't even really whether you do or don't. Even *if* you *did* the point truly is ... who cares? I just don't understand why people are all up in arms about the subject in general. It's not like it affects them OR their gameplay. I think the reasons for the complaints are because of bragging rights to be honest.

The fact that you guys work your tails off to make something fun for everyone is good enough for me, and it should be good enough for all of them.

And about the never having time to play, you really should step back and take a break once in a while. It helps to calm down and relax sometimes. Back when I was a guild leader during the hard core EQ days, being a guild leader, combined with lots of problems at work, and trying to buy a house, etc. etc. stressed me out so much I started having, in a sense, panic attacks where my heart was skipping a beat now and then. After stepping back, and playing some good gaming from a relaxing standpoint, it helped solve the problems.

Drink Beer, tell some jokes, laugh a lot, especially at your friends, and have a good time everyone, that's what I say! :)

I would expect people to be upset and care if we twinked our own characters, actually. Especially the donators. A MMOG should be fair on as many levels as possible, and I have zero tolerance for corruption.

This cannot be stressed enough. It is not reasonable to expect perfection--perfection is a goal you strive toward. Everyone who's ever been wronged or believe themselves to have been wronged: the people at the top are just people, and they just want the server to do well. If you've seen things that shouldn't be that way or players playing now that have been banned or whatnot, try not to rage against the machine too hard. If it's a legitimate gripe, take it up in the appropriate channels, and try very hard not to take every misstep as a personal slight on your honor and the honor of your house and household pets.

Personally I think you should all thank your lucky stars that Wiz is such a nice guy and doesn't just straight off ban your ass from the server for accusing him and the staff of something like that. I know I would.

Frankly, this wouldn't solve anything. If the complaints were frivolous, it's a far better idea to explain why they are and dispel them publically, and if they aren't, then they should be looked into anyway.

Funny how xar and i were just discussing this the other day, reading the locked threads than laughing our asses off because people accuse x guild of cheating and getting the uber armor from so and so admin and getting special treatment etc. Personally I think you should all thank your lucky stars that Wiz is such a nice guy and doesn't just straight off ban your ass from the server for accusing him and the staff of something like that. I know I would.

Personally I'd just like to thank Wiz for putting together such a kick ass server for me and xar and the rest of our friends from the Old game to play on like we did back in the day, but couldn't up until recently because of money related issues (Me going to college and Xar buying his house). It's really made my life that much better that I can actually keep in contact with old friends who I haven't talked to in ages, and even get to hang out with them albeit in a virtual world.
