Passcolor checks--WITH MUSIC!

Most people that fish don't try and get by with key-macro programs, we sit behind the computer and push our 5-cast fishing hotkey every minute or so (possibly on both accounts if we're boxing 2 fishers =D but lets face it, after several hours of fishing people don't pay as much attention. Other, sanity conserving, activities (watching a movie, reading a book, .... writing 10-page history reports >.< or other things). Fishing is perhaps the only thing I can do in SoD while I have chores to do, thats the main reason I took up fishing--to be constructive while doing other things that have to be done.

With that said--Would it be possible to have some kind of music change occur during the few minutes when a passcolor check is active, similar to the combat music change. It's a small enough change that people still couldnt use a full macro to fish for them for hours on end without touching a keyboard (which is the expressed intention of the passcolors) but still let people that are simultaneously doing other innocuous activities a wake-up call to look-up and get the color in.

Again--I'm not asking that passcolors be removed--I WANT them to stay... Macro-farming setups killed other games tradeskills I've played, but I do want some way to make sure I don't get flagged for macro-ing when I'm still in the chair, but just distracted by the final round of jeopardy.

Yes they could, so long as they're within earshot (which with volume turned up could be pretty much anywhere in the house, and for some even outside!). The point of it is that you're paying enough attention to notice the checks. If you need a wake up call, then you're really fishing while "unattended".

Passcolor tests are too easy and lenient. Adding anything to make them go "hey, you need to get back to the keyboard" is simply the opposite of what should be done.

The line "Fishing is perhaps the only thing I can do in SoD while I have chores to do . . . to be constructive while doing other things that have to be done" is particularly disconcerting. If you're fishing and not at the keyboard, then you're macroing unattended. If that's what you're doing, stop that.

Banned for a suggestion?

So I got my account banned for making a suggestion on the forums? I didn't do it in an offensive nor aggressive way, and I can accept the reasons for not making the change (I honestly didn't think of maxxing out the speaker volume to listen for the music change which would let people use a real macro while in a completely different room... that alone killed the possibility of a change, even if it were possible) But trying to find a way to help out legitimate fishers while keeping the restrictions on those actually breaking the rules shouldn't warrant having accounts banned that've taken 100s of hours of work (and 100s of hours of fishing....) to achieve.

And I'm not using a macro, I'm pressing the 5-cast hotbutton on my hotbar, that is written out in the wiki, and stepping 5 feet away to wash 1 dish to walk back over and hit the hotbutton again to walk back to the sink and wash another dish, or I'm reading 1 page out of my history book or answering a question for my Asian Culture class. Every single time the button is activated it is my finger doing the work. That isn't using a macro, it's just pushing a hotkey. I did the same things when leveling tradeskills in DAOC or Warhammer that took long-pauses between clicking. Any logs of my accounts would show that there are varied duration pauses between use of the hotkey which are characteristic of a personal interaction rather than a timed and automated static input.

Failing the unattended macro test and having to wait for 1hour (or is it 30 mins) is the punishment for missing the macro test message. There must be something else that happened to have caused a banning. I have never heard of someone getting a ban due to making a suggestion.
I know that using log parses is allowed. *retracted statement*
Now, I certainly don't want to get in trouble for making a suggestion. If a Dev/GM/Admin sees this message and believes it should not have been posted, please delete it.
edit: removed suggestion

No, from what I can see in our records you got your account banned for super-failing macro checks.

Macro-tests are just as much checking to make sure you're not a robot as checking to make sure you are not running unattended macros - you're running a multi-lined hotkey, that's an ALLOWED macro. If you want to appeal, [email protected] is the place to appeal it. But keep in mind, if you're not paying enough attention to pass the checks, you're not paying enough attention. :whoa:

I know that using log parses is allowed.

No. Using log parsers is allowed for specific purposes (DPS parsing), not for any purpose. For example, it's specifically forbidden to use a log parser to search listsold listings. I would think using one to get around having to pay attention to the unattended macro checks would also be forbidden.

I spoke with Allie about this specifically last year and that was exactly what she told me.
