Packetloss

I am sure the packetloss bug is known to anyone that spends over an hour in any given zone: if you are in a zone for a while, you are gauranteed to, at some point, hit sever packetloss. And each time I do, if soloing and in combat, I end up dying.

Is there any information on this bug? Is it being looked into; being fixed; a tip to avoid it; unknown to developers?

I know one thing players can do is recycle every hour (camp to char-select and re-enter the world).

That's about it atm i think. If you are in group/raid, all relog when one (or like 2-3 in raids) go linkdead. If you are solo/DC well, bad luck. I think there was a post about this a long time ago, stating that this is a well known but unsolvable bug. Maybe on the side of the server provider, can't find it right now.

it's annoying, yeah, but it's still a free game so... ;)
 
Well, I apologize for bringing up a sore-spot. I ran a search for packetloss and did not see anything related to this problem.
 
Yea it happened to me and all of my group members yesterday. Not that big of a pain but it is a nuisance.
 
And sometimes it is just a zone thing too. I was in Sadri Malath today with horrible PL and then about 10 min after I left zone it was reconnected.
 
To be honist this isn't only a SoD problem. Live also had this problem with random LD and sometimes packetloss. It's not an easy thing to fix and people that are coding this server have done an awesome job at bringing down the rate of getting it. If you were here almost a year and a half ago, you could expect to get a random LD or PL every half an hour or so.
 
Actually, I've timed out my packetloss to exactly every 72 mins... Dunno why, but 72 mins = packetloss for me. Zoning/camping solves this, however. And, yes, staff know this problem, and won't solve it... basically, cause they can't. It's SO imbebed in code that they'd have to change whole code to solve it, or that they told me once. So camp every once in a while when soloing/DC, and all will be fine.
 
I can't complain much, because the disconnects are much different and much less annoying than they were on live. In SoD you can easily tell if its server lag or packetloss (sometimes ninja PL gets ya, but its easy to figure out) while on Live it was all the same and basically left you with the question of "Am I going to survive?". You had to find the sweet spot to cut your losses going LD to /q or else you would be staring at the disconnect message for 2 minutes, then at server select you would get the "char in game" message for another 2-3 minutes.

Special cases like Sadri (dunno what's up with it having to be reconnected multiple times daily) are an exception to a basically predictable model of disconnects. I can only suggest that during a med break at ~72 mins you /q and get back, which takes about 30 seconds.
