We are looking to add one or two more people to our team of developers. Normally we attempt to only recruit between major products but as we are starting to grasp the vast amounts of work that have yet to be done on Ikisith we have decided to make an exception and begin once again accepting applications.

Here is what we are looking for in a developer:
  • TIME! If you do not have at least a few hours a week then we do not need you.
  • Team Skills. You are going to be working in a team environment and need to be able to handle that.
  • Willingness to learn. We do not require any advanced knowledge of SQL, scripting or the like but if you apply you must be willing to put in the time required to learn the basics of content design.
  • Time! This one should sound familiar to you but if I had a penny for each developer who applied, got accepted then did not spend enough time developing I would have five pennies. Do not waste our time if you do not have the time to spare.
  • Discretion. We have a very strict code of conduct that includes confidentiality of content. If you can not keep your mouth shut do not apply - we ban staff members from the game in its entirety when this code is broken.

The position would consist mainly of quest development although zone development is not out of the question once the developer has shown they have the chops for it. You will basically be thrown right into Ikisith development with a "learn as you go" mentality. That is not to say the team will not be there to support you- we will, but the fact of the matter is that there is a huge job to do and if you do not put the effort in you will not last long.

If you wish to enter in an application send an email to [email protected] including the following:

  1. Character Name(s)
  2. Race/Class/Level
  3. Tell us about your history on SoD.
  4. List any experiance you have that might help you in your devery. Creative writing, roleplay experiance and dungeon mastering are all possible examples.
  5. Why do you want to be on our team?
  6. An example of your dream zone or quest. This is where you show us what you can do. Be as detailed as you see fit but understand that the majority of weight will be placed on how you answer this question. You have full creative control over the context of the quest/zone but realize that showing us your ability to incorporate new content with existing lore is something you may want to consider.

There is no set deadline for applications- we will simply close this thread when we have what we are looking for. We will not be making any decisions for at least a week from this writing (3-18) so if you want to be assured consideration have your application in by then. Basically we do not want to pin ourselves down with a "We must accept X new devs by Y" scheme and keeping this flexible allows us to do that.

I look forward to seeing the applications! If you have applied before feel free to apply again as our needs are always changing.

Happy Devving!

Feel free to use this thread for questions.

What kind of experience would be best for your position? Obviously, SoD experience over anything else would be top, but what types of other experience do you think would make for a good dev?

For me, I think it is all about creativity and general MMO experience. Know how to craft an interesting story, or at least make simple quests not insanely boring, but also have a knowledge of what MMO players enjoy and what could fit into the MMO framework. Coding experience isn't as important. I learned it all from scratch (well, still learning) and I'm definitely no coder, so it isn't incredibly complicated.
