Old EQL Player With Questions

From the looks of it, SoD seems to be the answer i've been waiting for, but im curious as to some major differences that I should be aware of when choosing my class. I was thinking of going along the lines of a DPS class, monk/rogue/wiz, and was wondering if any could maybe give me some input on the effectiveness of these classes as compared to EQ Live (as it was about a year or two ago, havent played recently). I will most likely be playing with a RL friend, maybe two, so a duo/trio will be most likeley. I played a enchanter and cleric both to 65, so im trying to stay away from caster types but soemthing about a wizard just flat out kicking ass always helps, lol. Is quad kiting still a viable means of exp? Any information would be much appreciated, cant wait to see some of you guys in the game. I also will be looking to join a guild, im a hardcore player, with the intent of hitting 65 as quick as possible, but always helps to have a good group of players to enjoy the ride with. Hope to get some responses, thanks in advance guys.

Quad kiting is not possible on SoD, tri kiting is though iirc. I can't really comment on comparisons to live though.

Actually I been reading for about a hour and some, decided im going to create as a Bard. Not many on the server apparently and no need for twisting? (Wont have to eat pain-killers just to play a bard for 10 hours, haha), How are bards in SoD?

Bards are alright, if you know how to AoE kite, you'll level quicker than if you grouped. (And die more!)

Welcome to the league of rarity!

I LOVE bards, but abandoned mine after hearing that the constant summoning sound at each tick is tied to client, so it can't be fixed.
I like playing with sounds on, so that got really old really fast. It might be that other people have decided to do the same and this lead to a low bard population.

For those who play without sounds but listen to music this shouldn't matter.

I love bards and love playing one, but yeah...that sound drives me up a friggin wall. I've gone so far as to be hesitant to group with them. That sucks. :(

You could alwayd just replace the sound bit with a blank one... unless it's one of verant's sound bundles...

I'm looking into ways to remove the sound. I will probably just remove effects on all melody type songs.

And everyone that likes to play with sound ON will thank you. The annoying sounds from the songs are almost enough to outweigh the benefits of having a bard in the group.

Does this mean the particle effects as well? Hope not...

Those damn things give me a headache :p

Bard joining the group? Great! We could use a utility class, let me just slide turn spell opacity :D

I love the spell effects in EQ, they're better than a lot of new games, like WoW. I was really surprised to see that a seven year old game has better particle effects. Besides, for particles there IS that slider so you can choose to turn it off.

The partical effects are great in EQ and always have been. Too bad it bogs my system down, because I loved seeing them when I played on my desktop.

Hello, am new here too refrerd by my lil sis. what your doing here is a realy nice thing. excpecly to people whos gotten tired of paying 40-50 bucks every 3months for a new expantion and then be disaponted in how it turned out. this way the content can always be changeing from what i did know and always be fun with out paying 50 bucks every 3months though a donation once n a while will come ur way =) cant leach bandwith and content for free all the time =)

No offense, I mean i'm glad to see you here and you're happy with the site, but shouldn't that have been it's own post?

I'm just saying...

Great news. I might just return to barddom if there is a way to fix this.

As to the bard graphics discussion, I also dislike the bard lightshow. Love the EQ graphic effects, but I want them to happen when a spell goes off, not a constant barrage of light like the bard songs. Wizards and magicians etc should have lots of effects, but I never understood why Jackson's jig of vigour should bathe the world in massive curtains of orange flame.
