Not happy with the Jewelcrafting augment bottleneck

I'm not pleased that for jewelcrafted augments we need a brewed ointment that's also used in a ton of other recipe's mainly for Tailoring armour etc. It seems a bit lazy to me, especially as jeweling has been neglected with the recent tradeskill review (there isn't even a thread about it on the balance bit for example).

I did talk to Xeldan in IRC right from the start about jeweled augments suggesting that 51pp 5gold per combine was too easy and they needed a bottleneck. I think the one that was put in was done as a hasty patch and doesnt fit with the Jewelcrafting theme, ointments are described as used to cure silk, hides etc. to give them magical properies, I can't imagine how that fits into chiseling a block of platinum into a rune. The only thing it does fit into was the requirement to have a tradeskill bottleneck that scales from silver to platinum, instead of creating a new one the conveniently fitting tailoring one was used...

My suggestion is to actually give us our own ingredient, something that fits with the theme of the molten core's would work as that's already made with brewing and a little different.

Something like this:

Platinum combines: Lava dust, Peridot, Opal
Gold combines: Essence of Fire, Jade, Pearl
Electrum combines: (new item like granite from bancak mines or something), Topaz, Onyx
Silver combines: (new item like sand from Tarhyl desert), Hematite, Turquoise

Bear in mind i'm not asking for it to be made any easier, just that jeweling be given its own ingredient that actually makes sense from lore standpoint and doesn't conflict with tailoring...

That's fine, but we needed to put something in fast to prevent a thousand million augments to appear on the market. I agree that it should get its own components.

Cool, sorry for the long post I was paranoid :)

And it would have been me who made the thousand million augments :p I logged on and enchanted 100 platinum bars before I discovered they didn't work :D
