noob necro questions

Hey everyone. Just want to say im thankful for one, that SoD has its own wiki and forum, as i played EQ ten years ago, and got spells, didnt know what they were, how they worked, where any zones were, and quit early. Lol.

So i have a few questions, firstly, as a lv 16 Necro, i now have Shielding, Spirit Armor, Banshee Aura and Shieldskin, for self buffs. The question here is(i have yet to check), do they stack? I read somewhere that the Shielding line of spells doesnt stack well with anything.......For some reason. Can i use all 3? Is it even worth it, since i dont plan on getting hit often?

Also, in regards to DoTs, at lv 16 my best overall damage DoTs are Heat Blood(170), and Heart Flutter(144). Is there any reason i should prolong a fight to make Infectious Cloud(125) worth casting, since it is only 5 per tick, and takes 21 ticks? Or is it better to Engulfing Darkness, run like hell, Heat Blood, send pet, Heart Flutter, Fear, Meditate, and repeat? Maybe throw in a Lifedeaw if your dots start wearing off? Is there a better way? Just curious. Ive been doing well how ive been fighting, just wondering if theres a faster, better, or in any way more efficient method.

OOH! One more thing. You know the little window with your pets name, and commands and what not? Well theres that box where the buffs are supposed to show on your pet. Well i buff him all the time, with Focus Death, and Impart Strength, and they never show up in that box. I assume the pet is buffed, is that a bug? Or am i doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.

Your pet buffs are working, they just don't show up in the window. To check it you can always type /pet report and he will tell you what buffs he has.

As for the self buffs, I know that Banshee Aura, Shieldskin and either Spirit Armor/Shielding stack with each other. The issue is going to be with Spirit Armor and Shielding, since I believe they both have a conflicting AC component.

Infectious cloud is an Area of Effect spell that will hit up to 3 targets, but they have to be extremely close together. One good approach is to lead off with it or later AoE dots if you decide to take on multiple mobs.

Unless you need the hp's, dots are generally more efficient, as long as the mob has enough HP's for the dot to do full dmg.

All of those buffs do stack, shielding even stacks with druid Skin line. Its the later Shielding line buffs that seem to have a stacking issue.

As to dots...

I have been leveling a Alt necro (just hit 20) and I find 2 dots are more then enough to drop a mob.

Normaly just throwing Heart Flutter and Heat Blood on them. If they are a real pain, or I pull 2-3 mobs toss out Leach, and Spirit leach on targets and and startt throwing heat blood all around.

Only time I found it nessary to use Darkness line is if I wanted the snare, or I was killing Reds outdoors and stacked Heart Flutter, Heat Blood, Darkness, and Leach on it.

If your letting your pet do all the tanking at these levels.... DONT. Use that banshee arua and leach spell and melee right along with your pet. Thiers a good chance your necro tanks better then your pet at that level. Plus its nice to max out those Defense skills now instead of later.
