and i have checked in game and the settings should be giving me sound. I can get sounds out of game if i browse to the eq folder and play mp3 or wav files. I'm stumped!

<Random list of things to check>

1. All "in game" options set to allow sound?
2. None of your Windows sounds are checked to be muted in sound options, correct?
3. Do sounds in other directx games work? (Check directx for potential directsound issues.)

Short of the above, which are first thoughts, a friend of mine had this same issue when he first installed the game. He eventually had to change the drivers on his sound card to an older version, as the newest drivers (and the ones he originally had) wouldn't work. (I don't remember what kind of card he has, we were all fighting different small issues during that time.)

I checked all the ingame options. Other games seem to work. If i can get sound to work under the eq tutorial, will that help? I can try copying to a new folder and running the eq tutorial from there so it doesn't alter anything to do with SoD?

dxdiag found no problems with sound. My gut feeling is it's a SoD issue. Can't test the eq copy until late tonight at least :p

I don't know what files are relevant; this system doesn't have an "attachment" option so i can't just upload dxdiag.txt and posting it means a load of waffle and a few relevant bits. I've noticed sound problems seem common.

I might try making yet another copy of the folder and logging into another free eq emulator server to troubleshoot if you think that might help identify the problem? Would take a few days though as am capped down to dialup speeds.

Hmm, problem seems to have fixed itself! I have no idea why unless running dxdiag by itself triggers something! Thanks for suggestions!!
