Well, this isn't SoD specific I know...but it sure does effect game play 
. Yesterday due to a virus attack I had to reformat my hard drive reinstall xp et al. Now everything is working like new...except no sound...I tried a few things but none have seemed to work and im a bit noobish when it comes to actually fixing these sort of things.
This is what I managed to find out:
When clicking on sound and audio devices via control panel i get the error:
"Windows cannot play the sound %system root%\media\windows Xp Ding.wav. Your sound card may be in use."
I do not have a sound card. I use whatever it is that comes with mother board. Under Sounds and Audio Device properties; volume tab it states "No audio Device" and everything below is greyed out.
I assume my sound driver is uninstalled.
Under add new hardware there is a mess of stuff but one thing that stood out was that "Multimedia Audio Controller" is disabled with the comment:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
But i cannot find a driver under add hardware for multimedia audio controller.
Anyone that might happen to know what I need to do would be greatly appreciated, SoD isnt the same without hearing my foes fell to my blade
