no 3d devices found?

Ashleigh666

Staff Emeritus
so, i've gone through everything and installed and blah blah blah.
i get all the way to the SoD patcher, and then i go to play, it pauses for about 3 seconds and says "no 3D devices found" and turns off.

i recently had to do a wipeout on my comp so maybe i need to download something. anyone know my issue or what i need to download?

thanks

I am not terribly great with the puters but I will help as I can.

Go to start and choose Run... In resulting box enter dxdiag...program runs and then the display tab is the 3rd one... hit tab and it will then show you what you have for card etc.

2 options from there. Post the info so people more skilled than I can answer your questions better, or go into game options and make sure you have chosen a video card there. It is the first screen. If it says that there is no 3d device detected there and there is one showing in dxdiag, then you will have to wait for someone better at this than I.

edit: heres more info-

There's your problem. Your system works with the basic windows video driver atm. So either the driver of your video card isn't installed or not correctly. As this is a pretty obvious problem, you might wanna ask a friend for help setting up your system properly.

You had said that you had a recent computer wipe. Did you reinstall from the video card disc that came with it? If you can't find the disc, you can usually get the driver from the web site of the manufacturer.

Unless they have changed recently HP uses on-board video cards in their computers. I could never find a driver update for video when i was cursed with an HP but check the hp page anyways to see if there is any driver updates for your motherboard or computer in general.

(on-board = it is a fixed part of the motherboard.)

BTW what is your computer actually labled as being Pavillion 061 returns no search results and I see from other pages this is a common thing with HP now. (Diag software coming up with 061 as the model number of multiple makes of HP.)

If onboard video or not, you still need a driver. If it's onboard, you're right in that you probably won't find the driver on the distributor's/assembler's Homepage. Te producer of the videochip should be mentioned in the manual for the mainboard, and from that producer you'll likely get a driver over the internet.

If no manual, open the comp and look what it is, but like I said, get a friend for help.

HPs suck. it never came with any CDs what so ever. i tryed the HP site but i found nothing that helped. and i dont know shit about computers. i'd be surprized if my HP came with a manual. which im pretty sure it didnt.
guess i'll somehow try to figure it out....:|

edit: i got it to work, thanks guys!!! <3

i found a site that has software for my comp. type...maybe this will work D:
i'll let people know if it does  :what:

This is because HP now partitions a section of your harddrive and all your "first aid disk" is an a small partition. Basically if you have only one harddrive if you look in "My Computer" it will appear you have 2 harddrives. You still have the info from the CDs.

Also if you click Start there should be something towards the top that says Windows Update. It will check all your drivers to see if there is an update for them. It works ok but is not the best. If you cant find a driver from a simple Google search try that before spending a lot of time searching through pages for drivers.
