Newsletter

Well, I asked for it quite a while back before the summer and I was pretty well shut down by some random guy, so I would like to ask again now that SoD is more/less improving then getting stable.

I am a huge fan of newsletters, I believe it's a good way to receive information on the net without really having to do anything on the internet and avoiding the hazards of messege boards. Obviously it's not pertinent that you do it right now, but if your looking for a way to expand I think it would be a good idea.

Maybe everyone does want SoD mail in their box? Well, you could make a sign up section on the main site to just type in the email to add/remove it from the database. Then maybe biweekly someone gathers the updates, maybe technical information that changes in order to get on (for example, eqhost.txt), and possibly the most active threads (just an idea), and whatever else, quiz, screenshots, random item display (to get played into the database), useful tips, etc.

Well, honestly, I would rather spend my time working on server improvements than writing or providing input for a newletter.

It's not a bad idea, though, and I could probably do it. Feel free to post some suggestions for what you'd like to see in a SoD newsletter.

Not really bothered about a newsletter but some ideas anyway....yer, I am bored :D

Last months changes.
Upcoming changes.
Long term plans.
Planned GM events.
Class tactics.
Tradeskill routes.

The three first we could/would probably do, but there are virtually no planned GM events and the two last are for players to do themselves. :)

Another thing that could be added to a newsletter for SoD is when there is a contest such as the screenshot contest and the raid movie contest that took place not too long ago. Granted, the screenshot contest was on the ingame MOTD, but you'd be surprised (or maybe not so surprised) at the number of people who just ignore the MOTD. Plus, announcing such contests via newsletter would free up the MOTD for more important messages, such as the one a couple months ago as to why the vendors were down.

Another thing you could do is get the players a bit more familiar with the storyline. And by doing this you could tell the main story from the point of view from a regular bystander either citizen or warrior. You could simply tell a paragraph of the story a newsletter. Just an idea =)

That kind of defies the point of doing it yourself.

I think a newsletter sounds like a great idea for the community if Zodium feels like spending the time on it. Just as an idea, have a guest section where one or two of the players can contribute something each week/month. That could be the area for strategies and tradeskill stuff as suggested by Lieff. I know we also have some avid roleplayers here. There could be a section for their stories.
