BTW guys, remember that this goes far beyond Newport. Other cities, farms, etc, also have stealable items at night and NPCs that can be pickpocketed.

So when do Paladins get the ability to investigate these crimes? Maybe they could get a new magic item, a helm with "Inquisition (clicky)" on it that reports the target's Heat level while doing 10hp? Have the helm a nice copper color, so the rogues could say "Cripes, it's a copper!"

A mud I once played had a similar situation, a sheriff class that could investigate things. It went through a lot of balancing over the years. Unfortunately they had to take it out, as they couldn't get a good balance...but man it made for some great times.

one quick question: how will heat be shown? will it show when you con someone?

type /cmd stats

you will see a line such as:

-You have not drawn any significant ammount of heat.

I got spotted twice and the line changed to:

-(null) has drawn some heat. You best avoid getting caught.

I ran up to a guard and he conned kindly(no faction change) and waved to him.

I got caught again(saw a fellow rogue getting beat on inside a building and opened the door for him(he still died)

-Tryfaen has drawn a good deal of heat... citizens will be suspicious of you.

I got caught again(guard like 15 ft away)

-v too much heat. The guards are looking for you!

Cant comment on this rank of heat because i went afk for a minute(After zoning) and was already down to the previous rank before i could see if the guards would attack.

Well, an inquisition is more like a religious persecution thing. They're not detectives.

Detective would be more of a Rogue thing, as well. One might also include Ranger, but not in the city.
