Newports Sewers -> South Newport navigation problems...

I've messed around inside the game quite a bit as well as searched these forums and the wiki pages for a clue, but I'm stuck. I ask for help here (thinking this is the closest area to a help/support) because I'm loving the game so far, IF I can get around this issue:

Basically, when I go through the zone point to S. Newport from the Sewers (at level 4, as a human necromancer) I zone into a nearly completely DARK area (that says I am in S. Newport). I can see vague shapes of walls and rocks, but its like 2% visibility. This is with or without a torch or coldstone.

(the Newport Sewers, while dark in spots, is x100 more illuminated... I can see walls, my character, enemies, etc)

Its almost like this is a graphical bug... but then if I push around on the walls and change directions to the left or right in small increments, I get to a red dungeon-type area with the floor littered with bones... it reminded me of part of the Arena/PvP area in the city back on EQLive. This area is well lit (it literally goes from pitch black to bright and clearly viewable) but there is no way out of it. Its like a small passage forward, a left, a small passage to the right and it dead ends into a open wall/hallway that leads to... more darkness. Except I cant walk through it or jump through it, I hit an invisible wall trying to leave out the exit. I can back pedal and leave this red hued skullfloor area, but that only leads back to the darkness area that I zoned in from out of the Sewers, and then it only leads back to the Sewers, of which I am ready to leave now.

Help?

If no one has experienced this or I'm not making some obvious idiotic mistake, I'll post screenshots tonight of what it looks like when I get home (11 PM to midnight-ish, EST).

Thanks in advance!

Summon your Coldlight and put it in your... ranged?... slot. Light sources do not function from inventory in SoD.

Verify ambeient lighting is on in your pre login options.

If this is still too dark, your gamma is too low. ctrl w to open control bar.
options, or ctrl o, video, and move the gamma slider to the right.

With a coldlight, you should be able to see well enough. It is possible to gamma up far enough to see regardless, but that is kinda cheaty and really washes out the colors in the well lit areas.

You need to verify if it is some problem on your end (can't see the way through because of light, don't know about a false wall, etc) or a problem with the zone (buggy zone line)

Using the map will sort this out, either way
