Newbie seeks, Most Needed Classes?

So I'm getting back into SoD, haven't played in more than a year and I'm going to start from scratch...

So my question to you all is what are some of the most needed classes at the moment, and what are some good 2nd boxes for leveling the classes you suggest up?

Not necessarily for raiding, I just mean for leveling/grouping/raiding what stands out in all of your minds as some hard classes to find when you need one? Do you spend your time looking for a slower? tank? healer? melee DPS? ranged DPS? ect ect...

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

PS: Don't worry about what i want to play, if i had something in mind I'd of just played it instead of asking for help! :-D hehe - Plus I'm of the mind that I'd rather be playing a class I don't like 100% than sitting in town wishing i could play a class i do like 100% ;-D

Cleric, but there will be grouping dry spots. You might want a monk for that. The tank classes are all too tedious now, unless you don't mind your cleric dpsing.

If you are not planning on breaking in to the raid game with this char, then I think most often people sit waiting for tanks, because many people can just load a healer bot but not as many have a tank they like to box. But if you want to be a raider, then the tank spots are going to be mostly full or very very competitive so then it is probably not the way to go. Can't go wrong with a cleric, or even a druid.

Healers and DPS are always needed usually. Main Tanks are a hard spot to find in a high end. Usually taken.

:psyduck: Tanks are fine, you just can't tank 6 mobs that are on tier and do 2her dps anymore... unless you're a warrior.

And then you can tank them, but not keep aggro.
Tanks are indded fine.

However you'll have a hard time finding a guild at any tier past1-2 to be honest. Even for casual raiding guilds. I'd suggest a healer (non shaman because there are so many..) or a DPS as well. The usual needed ratio in groups/raids is 1 tank 2 healers 3 DPS, wich can even be 1 tank 1 healer 4 DPS/utility... I suppose you se the point.

Thade, love you to death, but when did sks tank 6? Frankly, having my sk fix two and my much higher tier, relic druid rain and dot to kill them is tedious. He used to be able to kill two with a much lower level cleric, though that really takes too long to be worth my time now.

Its boring gameplay in my opinion and i'm going to relate that. Though i'm well aware that the pro kid response is you should just suck it up and pretend everything is lovely. And the opinions of your pals who hopped from level 40 straight into thaz and beyond, on alts, don't really interest me being outside the standard deviation.

An sk can reliably keep up to 6 targets on them but unlike a paladin or warrior, there is no way you can dps multiple targets, or hope to keep aggro off anyone other than healers on any target other than your main dps target. Tanking is just as much as the people in your group not being totally retarded as it as about how you play. Is it a lot of work? Fuck yeah it is. Is it enjoyable? probably not. Is it doable? Yes.

Also if you don't have good enough latency to spam 3 terrors you are pretty shit out of luck tanking more than 3-4 mobs. The latency issue was the exact reason I quit playing my sk, only being able to reliably keep 3 mobs on myself, due to two terror spam and it being a ton of work didn't make an enjoyable play experience at all.

Edit: Who the fuck is your druid velleity?

Edit 2: Your healer should ALWAYS be dpsing when duoing or you are wasting potential. I do as much dpsing with thade than I do with juff. Duoing is about achieving max potential on both characters

So.... lots of problems with tanks it seems... guess i'll steer clear of them then...

So i guess the overall answer is the always welcome Cleric then? If so... what's a good duo for them... and if that's not the answer what is?

I'd just play what you think will be fun. If you are duoing, you can have fun doing Mage/cleric. Shaman/Rogue was fun. Wizard Necro/mage. Druid/Mage. All depends and what sounds fun to you.

I had fun trying an SK/Wiz box at lower levels for awhile. You can be sure that you will always have control of the aggro and can even do a little aggro-pong kiting in a sense.

Or do what we did the other day... 1 Tank +4 DPS LOL.

On note of a healer.... go Druid. Shamans are a dime a dozen and do not stack well, druids stack very well and give great flexability of play (DPS, Healing, DSing, Porting, Dot, buffing etc etc).

Well, here is your problem. If you are asking what is desired most in groups, the answer in order of desirablity is:
1. Tanks
2. Healers
3. Everyone else
4. Enchanters (no hate, but it is true)

Kirin Folken knows his stuff, but I think he is downplaying shaman's a lot. I just don't like their lack of group heals. But they bring some tremendous abilities to the group. And his shaman is pretty amazing. He is never out of manna, keep his Paladin alive while boxing raid targets and provides shameful gobs of dps. But I agree that druids are more versatile. And of course clerics are the masters of heal.
