Hello!

I am new to SoD and don't know much about EQ. So I was wondering if I could get some input on what kind of character I should make?

I know you're probably going to say "just do whatever you like" but I have no idea what is even good or bad or what is useful, etc. and would really love to get some opinions on the matter.

I usually like to play classes that are the most sought after in groups since I like to play with others more than solo, however I'm not sure if there is a lot of grouping in SoD or not...is there? Or will I just be spending most of my time solo'ing whether I like it or not? I don't know anyone personally who plays here.

Also, where is a good place to start out where there will be the most people around? I don't like being lonely!

Thanks.

There is a lot of grouping, but at the lowest levels it's usually easier to just solo. However, you should keep in mind that SoD allows us to play up to two characters (called duoing) at a time. So, taking this into consideration along side your preference for grouping, I'd say make a healing class (druid, shaman, cleric) and a tank type (shadow knight, paladin, warrior). This will give you the core of a group so all you'll need to do is get some DPS and you're golden. That being said, you should really check out the wiki.

I like to start in Newport because that's where I've always started. Black Burrow is just a couple zone lines away and there are a good amount of turn in quests. Again, read the wiki.

After you get used to SoD with your first couple characters I'm sure you'll have a better idea of what you really want to do. You may even just want to play everything to ~20. I'm sure pretty much everyone here has played just about every class that far. Lord knows I have. It really helps you figure out where you belong play style wise.

This game not only allows but ENCOURAGES multi-boxing?

Oh wow...I made a big mistake. I certainly won't be playing this game any further.

No the game encourages grouping, Multiboxing happens so we limit it to 2 MAX with stiff penalties. If you want a solid class, you cant beat a druid.

I personally dont multi-box, but just because others do should not deter you from playing, this is an excellent server.

As for what class you should play....thats a tough call. They are all useful. But my personal preference is the paladin. You get fighting and healing all in one. They get a good offense and defense, decent spell casting and can use a good range of gear. Paladins solo well and are excellent additions to a group. As a paladin, you put less stress on the party healer because you can heal yourself or be an assist healer. As a solo character, you don't need to find a healer because you can lay on hands to back up bind wounds before you can actually cast healing spells. Plus paladins get a few buffs and undead nukes.
Another plus to being a paladin is the diety sync bonus. As long as your alignment matches your diety, you get a bonus on things. If you plan on doing a tradeskill, blacksmithing is great for the paladin. You can make your own gear!
That's my 2 cents worth. I hope I could help.
