depends on how many tomes they have filled but..

Rogues/Wizards are generally the top two and very close to each other. Wizards have a really dark period for ~3 raid tiers (mob resists are too high, and they have too much hp for the size of wizard mana pools) but are fine again after that.

Mages/rangers/necros/bsts/monks are next. depends on the tier who goes where. And at the top end bards move up there too.

wizards are almost never #1 until your past t9 and your enchanter has aod.

Necros are always good, not always topping the charts, but consistantly good with lots of utility. Rogues are almost always #1 throughout the lower to mid tiers.

Endgame, we usually have a rogue, wizard, or necro as #1.

Back in the golden days, it went Dimmi, Rogue, uh...Raralith, then...hell I forget. Rogue is a solid choice if you're going DPS though, it's low maintainence, not really all that gear dependant, and can xp all day long without stopping. You also get next to nothing in the utility department, meaning that all you have to concentrate on is mashing 1 button with very little expected responsibility in the raid or group game. You can also brag about out-dpsing an entire combined raid of people =D

Word is the Splitting arrow tome really helps ranger dps jump up a ton. Of course, that is something for much later in the game. But if all you care about is who tops a list for a fight, that is probably one of your primary concerns anyways.

I could be wrong, but I believe Fell and I are the only ones done with Splitting Arrow II and I don't think ether of us really parse, and if we do we don't talk about it.

Never mind looks like Torleran is also one of the few rangers who gets exp. Gratz man.

Oh yeah... back on topic I agree with solo with the "rogue, wizard, or necro" answer. Casters are in a great spot right now.

Always remember, this could all change at any time. The people we are talking about doing the best dps in game have all played for about 2+ years. Play what you enjoy and have fun with. This game takes time and you cant just re-roll to play the flavor of the month class like some MMO's out currently.

Kedrin hit the nail on the head...when I started into the raid game, rogues were the end-all top tier DPS, then ikisith came out and there were more fights with partially melee immune mobs or fights that lasted like 20 seconds....even two particular encounters where the wizard could literally chain-mash their biggest nuke and never worry about mana or aggro. Old-world melee still rules supreme, where in ikisith casters have a small leg-up some times. It's also worth noting that the number of mobs has a massive impact on which class will shine more (AE vs melee) and the impact your class will have on your exp and 6-manability (i.e. rogue soloing is painful and slow at best and p much doesn't occur between lvl 10 and tier 6)

If you plan on doing the long-haul in SoD, I'd make a concerted effort to get one of almost everything to 65 with relics to get a feel for it (and to have your own private buffbot army, druids and mages are particularly helpful with leveling new toons for ports -hello main quest- and summons)

Also @ Solo - I don't play anymore dawg, sowwy =( If you just want comparisons, high 900s-1000 DPS on most old world and ikisith fights (It's hillarious what this does to Taeshlin in OP), I think I topped out at a hair under 1300 DPS for all-time personal best. Gz on ikisith making wizards more-than-rbow!

This thread makes me happy.

If you can answer one class as always being the best DPS then me and the other devs are not doing our jobs.

Best DPS should depend on the fight. Resists/AC/Duration/AEs/Abilities etc etc etc should all switch around who gets to be top dog DPS.

Sometimes a rangers melee from afar wins out, sometimes its safe enough for a rogue to run in and do all he can, sometimes resists are low, sometimes resists are high, sometimes whirlwind destroys melee DPS, sometimes an AE makes it hard for casters to chain nuke and on and on and on.

If you want to be big DPS the choices are Necromancer (Good on long duration low resist), Rogue (Good on low ac and low proximity danger fights), Rangers (good on low ac and high proximity danger fights), Mage (Good on 2 mob fights with low resists and low proximity danger), Wizard (Good on low resists and short duration), and Monk (Similiar to rogue but trades lower DPS for more resistance to proximity danger). Obviously this is ultra simplified but it gives you an idea of the spectrum.

FWF also has ultra endgame wiz/nec/rog and while our other dps are superb, things like a supreme charm, vah back, and maxed out tomes can add quite a lot of dps on a boss fight parse. I also know that rangers/mages will beat out my exp dps any day of the week.

If Nifera (bard) was doing 100k+ per raid mob years ago and Eldorath (Cleric) doing 500dps per ANY mob now, char doesn't matter. If you want it to happen, it can.

AKA: Do whatever you want and do it well and you can excel

That makes no sense whatsoever.

No cleric can touch 500dps. And 100k is nothing on a 10 min fight, and amazing on a 1 min fight.

Mgkida did 437 dps on the ward comes alive, just saying, dunno how he did it exactly but he did i was fucking shocked

Warriors stealing credit for damage shields on fast hitting bosses in mid tier is pretty sick dps.

Win.

Too bad the casters try to claim that dps is theirs. Ugly squishies.

clerics can do pretty close to 500 with sharn'rees verdict. closer to 300ish average with a hammer or crystalis. shamans do the most melee damage of the healers later on

rangers also sorta get left in the dust at the high end. up til about tier 9 they can top meters if they have a good bow, but after that everyone keeps steadily improving and the ranger still relies on luck for competitive parses, and maybe one mega-rare drop from saitha for a tiny ratio upgrade
