Hello there, new player here, finally got my lil bard up to level 5 to get selo's last night, but I am broke and weak. :)

1. Is there a low level stackable trash drop that is in demand for the economy? bone chips? or anything like that? if yes, what is a good newb zone to farm them?

2. Is there a decent low to mid level area for a bard to solo/group in where there are decent armor drops? If yes, what level should I be to go there?

Thanks

Varin the half elven bard

Bone chips are a good way to start, as they are needed for Ghostmetal/Warpmetal weapons and armor as well as top-end Type 2 augments.

Once you have a couple of plat saved up, vendor diving can be quite lucrative. Few people have the patience to check each vendor in a city, much less check multiple cities using the Mansion of Portals to travel between them.

Keep an ear out for items (especially tradeskill items) that are being bought in the /auction channel, and you could turn a couple platinum into a lot more with a couple lucky finds. I once found 11 tangleweed on a vendor on a low level character and profited 150pp.

(and then I died a little on the inside, but that shouldn't bother you like it did me)

I can't speak specifically for a bard but what I did with my paladin was hunt around athica. If you save up stacks of wolf/cat skins and spider silks, tradeskillers will buy them. You can also save up and get a sewing kit (around 2pp) and start sewing skill. It is worth it to start as a low level because tradeskills give exp for skill ups. You can use some of what you make and sell off the rest to vendors or players.

You can also try to gather a few other players into a group and farm the area. Again I would choose greater feydark/athica area because it is decent sized and the critters spawn pretty quick. The lizards drop vendor trash but the tails can be turned in to samantha the assistant in athica for exp, money and faction.

Agree with all this. Especially the vendor-diving. Athica vendors are a good place to start (lots of players base their playing, selling and banking out of athica) but there are others.

It takes some work and some patience (and a little bit of bank to begin with - 50pp or so to start but really about 300pp), but if you can find a spell that's lvl 61+ on vendors, players will typically buy it for 100pp or better.

Typically if the spell is lvl x it will sell for y:
61: 100
62: 200
63: 300
64: 400
65: 500+

Personally I found a spell last week for 80pp on vendor and sold it to a player for 3k. It takes patience and luck but sometimes the stars align.

As for armor, not particularly. Fearstone (lvl 10+, off Greater Faydark) has some ok starter armor drops for bards, but imo you're better off looking to buy some cheap smithed stuff from a starting smith. That, or just hold out till you can farm and buy some dropped loot at higher levels.

Made my living on Live selling BC. Nothing but. Started out that way here, too. IMO the market here is easier to break into, though. There is ample opportunity for you at any stage in the economic ladder. My bud makes a killing just mining and selling ore. He's not a smith or anything else, he just mines and sells. I just started fishing, and OMG! not even counting the maps, the return can be pretty remarkable. In short: plenty of ways to rake in the cashola. Just gotta be willing to put in the time\effort.

HOLY SHIT! i'm not even going to ask what spell that was, don't wanna ask you to let that secret out of the bag but great job lol!
