Newbie gear path

Braveguard

Dalayan Beginner
I'm playing a paladin (Serif). I've made it to level 11 so far. With the lack of a searchable database of items (not knocking it, I think that was a good idea), it's difficult to know what path I should follow for upgrades... being a newbie, I don't even know what's available or how much it would cost.

That said. I'd like some advice on how I should be geared at what levels. Right now I'm mostly chain. I followed the general advice fo sinking everything I could into starting CHA but that left me low on STR so I can't go full plate due to weight contraints.

I understand that it's silly to try to get the best gear until I get a few levels but I'd like to maybe find good camps for some decent stat items or have SOME idea of what I should be looking to buy, say, in my teens.. in the 20s... in the 30s. Items that are decent camps or have a good price point are what I'm looking for really.

A couple of generous crafters heard me asking advice in /gu and sent me a couple of weapons to get started so I'm mostly asking about armor/charm/jewelry.

Any advice or clues is much appreciated.

The Wyvernfang armor quests are great items to start with. Each piece requires an ancient mold for the appropriate slot, and golden metal sheets. These can both be purchased for a few pp each on listsold. The quest details, and item stats, can be found here:

http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Wyvernfang_Masterwork_Golden_Platemail

Some of the pieces are rather heavy so you may want to look mainly at the pieces that give +strength, or pick up cheap strength jewelry/augs that are player made.

As far as getting items to use yourself via grouping where they drop, you can use the wiki to look through the drops in each potential exp zone, and try to join/start a group that is killing at that location. An example for the teens would be the Warrens. Using the Warren's Item list (http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Warrens/Items_list) you can find things like the Bodyguard's Mail Shirt, Collar of Flame, etc that would be upgrades.

Another approach is to kill things that give decent money for the time invested, either via raw coin drops or drops that are used in tradeskills or ones that vendor for a decent amount. As you acquire more wealth you can keep an eye out in the Auction channel, or browse listsold, for cheap items that would be significant upgrades. It's generally a good idea to save up for an item or two that offer large improvements rather than spending the same amount of money on many small upgrades. There are certain items out there that vendor for a very low amount relative to their stats, so some very nice upgrades can be had for cheap. The Stiff White Wool Sash comes to mind- it's an all/all belt with 10 strength and 55 mana (among other things), no rec level, that only vendors for 1.5 gold. Because it's the common drop from a mob that is camped nearly 24/7, it's easy to either buy for ~25pp from players, or maybe bought for a few gold from a merchant in Athica if you're lucky.

Finally, pretty much every adept in the game will have an item or two that are useful for a paladin. Look through the various adepts on the wiki to see which ones are available near your level, or to see if there are any you think are really worth doing as you level up. The list is here:

Thanks for pointing this out! Out of curiosity; is there anything like this for lower levels than the suggested 21-30 lvl range? Or is it fairly easy to complete these before then (with or without aid from higher level characters?).

Aside from the noob starting armor quests for specific classes in many cities, I don't know of any quested armor sets for a lower level than the wyvernfang ones.

While the molds and plate/chain/leather/silk pieces drop from level 20-30 mobs or so, they are usually sold by players either in the auction channel or on listsold for literally 1-2pp each. It shouldn't take more than 50pp or so to fully equip a character with the quest armor as long as you are a little patient and find each of the molds for cheap.

I would not be overly concerned about gear at your level. By level 50 that needs to be your top concern. My opinion is that player crafted armor is by far your best value. Need some plat? Well I am glad you asked. The same guys who make armor also desperately need components that you can get. And if you get into mining, an admitted boring endeavor, people will buy your ore. Ghostmetal and Warpmetal ore currently sells for 350 PP/stack. Mithril ore sells for 50-60PP per stack. And you can do Warpmetal Ore at low levels, all it takes is time. Bone chips sell for 5 PP/Stack and Ectoplasm (from Kaladim) sells for 35 PP/stack. [Deepmetal ore sells for 1000/stack, but that is not practical for most people]

You can buy dalium armor for about 30 PP a piece. http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Dalium_Platemail_Armor

Mithrhil armor sells between 50PP and 100PP each and is premier twink armor at lower levels.

When you get to level 50 you really need to start thinking about Deepmetal Armor. It is pricey but will take care of you until you are well into raiding.

And yes, I am endeavoring to blacksmith and so am probably biased. But this is what I do for my alts. And I advertise about buying those components on my smith all the time. Frankly if you mine Mithril Ore I will make you a deal. I bet other smiths would too. The market for mithril weapons is unlimited.

Here's my question: how quickly do you want to progress through the 1-57 levels?

If you enjoy the low level game and wouldn't mind spending a lot of time there, then my answer to your gear concern is:

Adepts. Adepts. Adepts. Check them out on the wiki!

EDIT: Adepts are not for the weak of heart. I think the most time that I've ever spent in merely attempting to form a raid for one of the 40ish level adepts was 4 hours. Forming the raid requires patience, knowledge of the encounter (check the wiki), and luck with having the right class/levels online. Sometimes you're lucky though, and the raid is ready to go 20 minutes from announcing it.
