Newbie class question

I apologize if any of these have been stated before, I played this game long ago, pre POK; so it has been a while,

1) I have been looking through classes, is lock picking, pick pocketing and traps worth choosing a rogue? As in effective and useful more than a few rare times?

2) Anything great to dual with a friend who is playing a druid, other than the obvious choice of a tank, playing this game more for fun than the serious factor.

Can't forget the other questions, and thank you, by the way.

Picklocking CAN come in handy (a citadel encounter, a door in EC uhhh help me here?) Traps are kinda fun but some are broken and most the time its not worth the trouble to use, Sneak/Hide can be very useful in select zones for helping the monk split, ( See Pofrost, ToT lobby, Yclist) But rogue utility is highly situational. if your looking for a good partner that isn't a tank for your druid friend a monk is the way to go tbh or maybe a bard. Rogues have little to no tanking ability they have 2 jobs and 2 jobs only, DPS hard and live through AEs.

Oh and escape+ a rez urn and a smart rogue can save raids/6man i suppose

1. I'm not sure that pickpocketing is so great... but lockpicking and traps are good enough to spend the time to train.

2. Beyond tanks, druids pair well with Mages and Necros. All of which are fun classes to play. All of which are fairly gear-independent classes, just make sure you put all your starting points into CHA. Really, a druid is a great all-around class and is pretty good for fun duoing for any other class. Although, duoing with a rogue not so much, unless you have a ton of plat to twink out the rogue - even then, you aren't going to get the maximum potential of the rogue. Rogues really shine in a group and can administer an amazing amount of damage.

Additional Info - when you start you are in a guild called Dalaya's Beginners, ask lots of questions. It's a great place to get quick answers and generally most of the people giving answers are helpful.

The wiki is a great place to learn more about zones and quests for your characters.

Thanks, and yeah my friend is the druid, just figured i would try, was half tempted to pick an enchanter, but they are kinda what bored me to death with this game, though i do love the idea of KEI lol. That or a shaman... But Necro or mage does sound rather fun.

Mage druid is actually a pretty baller duo nowadays tbh. Granted to really start to shine you're going to need to pick up your companion tomes soon after 65, but alot of the problems with the duo that I've had in the past have been alleviated.

Here's some of the cons

1. small amount of buff overlap=> DS
2. Lack of an indoor paci
3. Needs a fair amount of work to settle into it
4. Pre your mage being geared on double pulls you'll probably be using monster summons or the druid to tank the mob the pet isn't tanking. It's possible to have the pet tank both, but it's a giant pain in the dick.

Pros
1. Ports
2. Reasonable healing power
3. Hots now!
4. Won line for mana regen
5. Gimpy druidaego for when aego fades or you are lazy as hell.
6. Druid can tank pretty reasonably for alot of duo mobs, allowing you to pull 2.
7. Good root and snare
8. Movement speed buffs.

There's more, but every single pro and con would take a while. Honestly I would suggest both of you box as well, get into the habit and this game gets alot easier, both to put things together, and to make money (also, buffs).

Oh and if you're going caster putting points into cha or int seems logical. Keep in mind though if you eventually progress to raidgame these max out fairly quickly, whereas other stats (stamina and agility for example, which are still useful to casters, albeit to a lesser extent, stamina will max eventually, but it takes a long while, and you'll want the hp) will not.

Pick pocketing really needs some love. There are two reasons to use it in the game. I really wish there was a separate table on mobs for pickpocket loot.

Pickpocketing is cool.

Do xp in a zone with a lot of gem drops and count your black sapphires and diamonds while your group works out the res of the spit!

Lockpicking is probably the funnest skill to level up, no joke. You'll learn zones like Redsun Mines inside and out.
