New Tradeskills!

I'm probably not the first to think of this but doing a search of the forums reveals nothing.

I'll just list the ideas:

--Panning--
This tradeskill compliments jewelcrafting much in the way mining compliments blacksmithing.

Instead of having to kill NPC's for a random chance of getting gems why not have the option to be able to sit down beside a creek, lake, ocean (whatever) and pan for gems.

It would open up a new avenue to support a trade as well as provide new ways to create an income (via selling gems to jewellery makers or vendors).

The distribution of gems and skill ups would probably be best done like fishing and mining.

--Lumberjack(ing?)--
This tradeskill compliments Fletching.

Only thing I can think of is have the option of being able to farm timber (shafts) from trees. Different trees from different zones provide different quality arrow shafts.

I'm not sure about arrow heads and nocks (etc), maybe other people would have some ideas.

Have you even looked at Fletching? I did just rewrite the whole darn thing, and what you're describing would require an entire overhaul again.

I appreciate your vigor for tradeskills; I dare say I'm more passionate about SoD tradeskills then anyone else. Furthermore, I'm always interested in new ideas... I mean, the reason we haven't done anything more with pottery is that we can't think of anything to *do* with pottery, and there's an almost 6 year old thread asking for a ideas (CLICK LINK HERE). There also that public call for Cooking recipe ideas and a pretty-much-done-on-paper Fishing improvement (but I'm reallllllllllllly loathe to touch fishing at all pre-3.0, and I'm hopeful that's not going to be 2014).

That all said, I hope you'll gain some deeper understanding of the tradeskills as they are now. The lumber one seems pointless with Fletching, and the panning one seems to be redundant with Fishing and serves just to lessen the farming aspect of post-195 Jewelrymaking, but I've got hope that these aren't the extent of your ideas, and you'll have plenty that are in line with SoD's tradeskills.

HI-JACK!

Dumb question/suggestion ahoy: Would it be feasible/desireable(sp?) to have trade-skill levels affect non trade-skill statistics?

Examples:
You have 100 poison-making, this confers a +1 or +1% or whatever seems appropriate bonus to your save vs poison.

You have 50 jewelry-making, the AC of jewelry you wear increases by 1 (or 10% or w/e, pristine style?) while you wear it. At 100 the physical stats of jewelry you wear aquire the same bonus (str/dex/int/cha/etc). At 250 the hp/mana of the jewelry is likewise affected.

Mining could give carry-capacity increases maybe? BP and/or legs affected by smithing/tailoring? Food stats for baking? NPC merchant discounts/sell-for increases for begging? Fancy fonts in /ooc for forum repping? (This is a serious suggestion, I'm just not a serious person.)

JUST AN IDEA and it probably won't work or isn't wanted. I'M JUST SAYIN
