New Server Comments

Hey folks,

I wanted to make a thread where everyone can post about the new game server. Let us know if it is less laggy, more laggy, quicker to zone, etc etc etc. Would like to get as much info as possible so we can optimize what we can.

Post away!!

Loaded chars around for 30 minutes and 0 zone crashes (and 0 of those bugs where you /camp and it gets to 0 and just hangs a while with the char in zone which I assume is like a zone crash). On average, I would have gotten a couple zone crashes in that time period with the old server. So far so good! Very happy with the staff's initiative in fixing server issues which have been plaguing SoD for quite some time now.

I seem to be having a problem creating a new account.

List Accounts also gives me an error "Could not connect:" when entering in a valid e-mail

The /mp3 command is entirely client-side, so any issues with that are unrelated to the new server.

i still "crash" with relative frequency when zoning, that is, it simply hangs and never actually zones. it happens around 20% of the time. this problem has persisted across two computers, seperate installs, and two states with different service providers, so i don't know if it's related to the server or what, but it's weird as it never happened to me prior to around 3 months ago.

I still have this problem too, and the exe crash when I camp. I put in maybe 10 hours of play time recently to check it out. Zone times and load times are a lot faster for me sometimes, and the same other times.
My thoughts on the speed differences:
1. Maybe my old laptop is acting like the giant piece of shit that it is, and when it has been on for a while it zones slowly.
2. Maybe I am moving into zones that are 'active' on the server and those are the fast zone times, and when I move to a zone that is currently 'inactive' it takes a while for the zone to load/activate serverside.
I don't know, just some thoughts.

Just an FYI for those with lots of zone crash problems....

I zone crash a ton sometimes, but I know it's my shitty internet (point to point wireless), and usually what I do to test if it's me or not is to open up a command prompt and type "ping 8.8.8.8 -t" and watch while I play or zone. if you get a many/any "Request timed out" your connection is dropping packets and causing the problems. Lots of 3 and 4 digit ping times are also an indication of connection issues.

I've always assumed whatever packets are being sent while zoning are UDP and will not resend like TCP which leaves zoning tough on crappy connections.

I could be entirely wrong about the packets and stuff. It's just what I've observed over the years of living in the country and having terrible internet.

That is correct. All of the connections into and out of the server are UDP, so if they get dropped anywhere in transit they will not be resent.

It's working perfectly fine for me using IE, Firefox, or Chrome on both Windows and Linux.
Jumbers, I sent a screen shot to irc yesterday about this. Something is wrong. I have an issue with both Firefox and ie as well as my cell phone on the Verizon network. Another goon I spoke with who is in a different state than I am has issues too. This images happens when you click on the page "2" button of any vendors' wares.

This. SO annoying, running boxes somewhere means i get to crash 10 times. It's horrible and never happened until a few months ago.
