New Player to SoD

Hey everyone, my name is Kirzan. Actually, my name is Michael. I am planning to start playing SoD today! I'm a casual looking for something to go back to when the mainstream stuff gets boring.

I know and understand that SoD is almost nothing like the actual game. I guess my only concern right now is to know how the "starting from scratch" experience is? I intend to play a Bard as I am familiar with the Classic Bards, twisting, and such. I just wanna know how much of a "survivalist" server this is. By that I mean, will I wear cloth until level 25? Are the drops from even level 1 monsters at least worth a tiny amount of petty cash to get, say, leather by level 10? Little things like that.

Don't get me wrong, I do not want to have my hand held at all. I just wanna prepare mentally for the challenge ahead.

You aren't going to be handed a set of armor, if that's what you mean. You'll need to scrimp and stratch... or you'll need to be clever and shrewd. There are opportunites available to you if you take them (fishing, mining, newbie fetch quests, low level Adept mobs, figuring out what tradeskill items you can collect and sell to higher levels).

Adjusting to the Bard class here will be your initial difficulty. You'll find that twisting isn't the same in Dalaya as it is in on Live. The clarity of your post suggests you'll adjust to Dalaya and fit in socially with the Shards of Dalaya community pretty well. Welcome, and see you in-game!
