New player looking for box suggestions

Hey everyone! Just started recently after playing on Live years ago. I know some things work a bit differently here, so I'm hoping to get some suggestions from the veterans.

I know I want to play a shaman, but I'm having trouble deciding on a decent partner for boxing during off hours. So far, I've considered dps classes like beastlord, necromancer, and wizard since I never really played any of those to a high level back in the day. Would any of those be viable partners, or does the lesser slow here make a shaman a noticeably weaker tank? Would I be better off with something like a paladin or shadowknight at higher levels? I'm not dead set on min/maxing for some kind of unstoppable duo, but I would like to have a reasonably viable option for when I can't group.

Any other advice is welcome, but I'm pretty happy to sort out some things as I go as well. Thanks in advance! Looking forward to spending some time here!

beastlord's utility wouldnt be as desirable if you boxed a shaman. wizard would be a poor choice in my opinion. necromancer could be ok, but you would be best off with monk or sk followed by paladin or warrior.

Any class would be viable, some are more powerful or efficient than others though. It also depends on the type of boxing you'd like to do. If you wanted, you'd definitely be able to do shaman plus wiz or necro, by either tanking with the shaman or kiting with the caster and throwing shaman dots on too. A tank or monk/ranger/bard would generally be a more efficient box setup but you could make other classes work just fine for leveling and farming.

Short suggestion: Monk or SK or Ranger or Magician (in that order)

Long suggestion: Pairing a healer type (Shaman) with a tankish type is the bread and butter of duoing. You can do crazy concept boxes later on, for now keep it basic. I recommend Monk or SK and not Pally or Warrior because Paladins do abysmal DPS (and terrible aggro, but that is a whole other can of worms) which for solo boxing isn't any good and Warriors are arguably the most gear dependent class in the game so not the best first character.
If you are interested in a more DPS pairing then Monk is still a good choice. Necro pets are kind of flimsy so a Magician might be a better choice if you want to go that route and mages are a rarer class so that is neat. Beastlord is redundant. Rangers are a fairly amazing class on SoD and would be a bit tankier so a good option if you do not want to play a Monk.

I'll second the pally DPS. I box a shaman/pally, and I end up DPSing on the shaman with the Pally tanking/healing. SK/Shaman would imo, make a better combo if you have to do a tank instead of range or monk.

Good luck and enjoy!

Best box with a shaman hands down is sk. I've duod toons with my shaman and an let's you do the most in the long run. In my opinion sk > monk > pally > ranger > bard > everything else.

Thanks for the advice guys! I suspected the beastlord might be redundant, but it's a class I never tried before. Sounds like a future alt then. Shadowknight sounds like the right combination of fun and usefulness, so I'll give that a shot. I appreciate everyone taking the time to help out!
