New Player - Have EQ related Questions..

Hi all.. I just started playing on SoD, and I've never actually played EQ at all. I'm an experience MMO player, for a number of years, But back in the day I never jumped on the EQ wagon. Anyways......
Being Newbie and all to EQ, my questions are:

1. I was in game last night, got some gear to drop (chest & cape), put it on, but it did not show up graphically on my character.. Is this a level thing? or do only certain pieces of armor/gear show up on your character? Or am I missing something?

2. Are there Trainers to get my skills? Specific Warrior trainer etc to talk to? I don't see anyone named or called "Trainer"?
I started a warrior and I don't have any abilities but melee attack and Kick, so killing monsters atm is pretty rough... lol.

Been doing some of my own research on stuff about how to play and the /commands, so anything else, advice or a good page to go and look up info would be appreciated.

1. It was probably cloth armor. It doesn't have a graphic. Neither do capes by the way.

2. You usually start at your class trainer after The Dream. You can also check your map (backspace is the default key to bring it up). The class guild areas are marked, and a trainer is there somewhere. Most have class related names, though not always. To use the trainer, right click on them. If a window with a bunch of skills doesn't pop up, it's the wrong person.
 
When someone wonders why their cape does not display you know they are new to first generation MMOs =p.

You will find things to be quite a bit less "polished" but sometimes the game is all the more endearing for it. I hope you enjoy yourself!
 
EQ is more challenging and better coded than new MMOs.

Also this server is best EQ server.
