New "Old" Player... with questions

Morning,

Stumbled across your site earlier, and was wondering a few things... I played EQ for 6 years (going back into BETA) and quit when WoW BETA was released. I have a bunch of experience and eventually (after a plethora of alts) settled on a Bard as a main (lvl 65 300+AAs... blahblah). Anyway, the grind is really what did me in, but one that I've found that I almost enjoy in WoW because I can actually see some forms of advancement every time that I log in.

My question really is this, I did a search for it in the forums but wasn't able to come up with any answer... what sort of an XP gain is there? After having a /played time of 7-8 days in WoW... I can be level 50 (grinding and doing quests), is that on par with WR's XP rate or is it more of the EQL kind where 8 days /played puts me somewhere in the level 25-30 range?

Also, what sort of differences are there in-game as opposed to EQL in terms of spelldrops and equipment gathering?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

EDIT: Clarity because its early

I don't know about the top end, but so far 1-30 has been pretty quick for me. I'm pretty much in the same boat, long time eq player, new to WR. I have just over 2 days /played now @ 32.

The zone maps are layed out differant then live, even though some are the same. The items are 99.5% unique to WR (save the basic stiff like leather, chain, etc). Equipment so far (low end) has been gifts from kindly folks, the basic stuff dropping off lowb mobs (like Soft Leather armor). Seems most classes have 1-50 spells on vendors, but I really can't be sure on that ;)

One thing I am sure of, is this is great fun =]

my opinion

first off, i started WR about 2 months ago. things change really fast here. if there is a major problem, it gets fixed a lot faster than live. that's the #1 difference to me about this server. but things like exp gain, aa exp gain etc change as well. so with what I'm about to tell you may be different now.

1. experience, leveling and skill gains.
here, you level wayyyyy faster than EQlive (i don't know much about WoW). AND you can do it solo. AND you can do it without gear (this is from the perspective of being a monk of course). there are those levels that are a bummer though becasue of mob level and your ability to solo. that's where grouping comes in. if you duo, you won't notice much of an exp gain from grouping. trio you will notice (and so on and so forth). so group if you can. one last thing on leveling. HUMANS level fast! we get skill ups fast. that's because we have no racial traits. i tried making an iksar monk and while the exp penalty wasn't all that bad, the skill up penalty was. i couldn't get h2h or 1hb up to save my life. oh and one last last thing. we have an exp debt here. you do not lose levels. if you die you get an exp debt based on level (i believe). if you die again, you still have the same debt; it doesn't accrue! you also respawn with all your items. NO CORPSE RUN's here!

2. items
it really depends on where you hunt. there aren't as many NPC's running around as there are on live but then again i don't expect there to be. the fact that there are tons of uncontested creatures running around is my only concern. there are plenty of drops and risk vs reward is highly monitored here. so the riskier/tougher the zone, the better the rewards. we have a similar design to Velious on this server in that we have armor quests here. you can upgrade them with even rarer gems that drop in harder zones. and then even upgrade them one more time from even more rarer gems from an even harder zone. you only get to choose between giant and dragon though. currently there are no true velious armor quests out of thurgadin (although there are some newbie armor quests there).

all in all the intentions of this server are much much different than live. it's more vibrant here. you still get some drama now and then but just remember, where ever you go, there you are.

enjoy
:)
