Hey everyone! I never have played everquest before, but when I'd seen a few people posting over on WineHQ about running it to play on Shards of Dalaya I headed over. The SoD patcher is currently running, and hopefully I'll be on server soon enough.
There are some steps involved getting eq and the sodpatcher to run, but I am a computer science major and if this works, I'm going to make a much simpler install script that will fetch winetricks, install .net in wine, automount the cds, run the patcher and then the sod patcher automatically.
I feel if installing were easier, many more linux users would play, and usually linux folks are pretty good about donating, especially if they've ever worked on a donation based project themselves.
Anyway, Hi! I don't really know what to expect, but I have read only good things about this server, and am very impressed at the work the dev team has done, and the group the admins have put together. If anyone is interested in helping a complete newb get started, you can shoot me a message.
