New guy, Roleplaying?

Hey, I'm new (Another one, I've been reading the forums and saw a lot of these.)

I've played emulated servers of many games a lot after trying the live ones, EMUs usually have better communities. The main site seems to put a huge emphasis on roleplaying, but the first thing I see when I log in is an awful lot of 'lol's and 'lvl 10 want to kill mob' stuff. As much as I loved being in Everquest again after FFXI and WoW, it seemed a little too familiar.

Is the whole server still spamming l337 speak all day or is roleplaying actually enforced?

Side question: Is a list of Must read threads for How-to's and such? I couldn't find many threads on how to use specialization points, but then again I didn't look too hard. If I could get a list of reccomended reading threads, I would greatly appreciate it ^_^.

Hello, by the way, and props to the server!

From what I have experienced so far on WR, (granted I am still very new) if you are speaking to someone in a roleplay manner and persona most will respond in kind to you. However if you say "Level 12 XX LFG" they will respond with "yo dude come join up". So the whole RP thing is what you project yourself in most occasions. I don't normally RP my characters but if I group with someone who does I am not gonna ruin there fun by being a dork about it, I just play along.

Hell I prefer to roleplay, had a guy walk up to my elfie earlier while waiting for the boat and say something to the effect of "I hope the day finds you well my fier'dal cousin" and it rocked, I've never come across anyone that roleplays though and I prefer not to make people uncomfortable by roleplaying while they're obviously not interested in it.

Thread necromancy I'm sure however since it relates to what I was wondering...

What should I read up on to get a bead on how people generally act when roleplaying thigns out? Kinda wanting to have things planned out since untill I can get the last expansion(downloading eq trilogy right now...thus meaning i lack only one expansion cd...if trilogy will work for me that is) I can only do background infromation digging.

Long and short any of the roleplayers here have logs? I ask since eq seems to have an irc client built in, at least thats how it behaves functionally so i figure somebody would know how to log at least the message sessions.

In my experience, there aren't any gm events nowadays; the ones that do exist tend only to be for the highest level players in only a couple of zones. I'm not trying to be negative or anything gay like that, maybe I'm just not lucky, but pretty much the only time I hear about people being in recent GM events is from well-geared 65's.

That bites. Any general roleplay outside fo gm events?

Also any guidelines to playing each class or are players ment to wing it according to what class/alignment/god they worship?

I can RP if i got a good xp grp that im hunting whit but otherwise it is just shit chat in the grp like is chips better than ice cream xD

I'm intending to establish a network of people interested in RP events soon, so I can hold them without whiny level 65s out for fame points shitting them up. (Which is the main reason I stopped holding them, really)

So keep your eyes peeled.

If you're expecting a server full of role-players and a storyline to dive into I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. There are a few of us who do roleplay, but for the most part don't expect it. Generally what I've found is if you initiate the role-play then others will sometimes join in. It's definitely not a server where role-play is practiced by the majority of toons.

Which is why there should only be events for those toons who wish to roleplay. Screw those 65 with like 100AAs who try to take things from the struggling lower levels.

I'd love to see events in general, either RP or not. Makes no differance to me as long as its somethig fun to do with others! I agree some lower level things would help, dont want to exclude those who have smaller characters... :)

I love RPing... one of the things I miss most of the old old EQ was the group of friends I had who were really into RP... I am still trying to see where my character fits in this new world and will RP more once I finally decide on a deity.

Sounds great Wiz. I'm fairly new to the server, but are there special mobs and things on holidays? I remember on live when there'd be a werewolf event or something on Halloween and such.

I generally don't RP, but if I'm in a group that does I play along. Or if I go to talk to anyone with a purple name, I try to do so in RP.

I recall last christmas Santa and his elves made an appearance, and passed out tons and tons of gifts to all of those good lil boys and girls throughout Dalaya. There was also a special holiday vendor where one could purchase gifts for themselves and friends at fairly reasonable prices, and elves and stuff where scattered here and there. Some eerie creatures were the decorations for Halloween, if I can remember right, so, yes, there are holiday themes on SoD.

BTW, I also roleplay in my mind as I'm playing the game, however, I have yet to be in a group where all were roleplaying and I'm not sure how I would do at that, but would love to try. I do speak in character when I'm approached by another in character, however, I don't encounter many speaking in character.

though i'm new to this server I always try to keep in character, it's my end of the day release. so if you run into a warrior named Kurglar who might be a bit hostile please don't take it personal. ;)

I get really weirded out when people RP. I don't know why.. it just seems really odd to me and certainly not something I myself could ever get into. But I'll never openly tell someone to stop RP'ing. If they want to do it, they can, just like if I want to be an idiot, I can.

A great part of roleplaying is the fun factor. I dont mean getting in depth about you gnoll slaying mothers ex-treant affairs, but talking with minor accents on , and a little bit of attitude and racial 'status' is really really fun especially in raids where there is lots of downtime.
