New Death System, how do you score?

The point system starts out with a base of Zero (being the basic newbie death) and extends upwards. It is not a fixed system, so particularly noteworthy style issues may be allotted extra points. Remember to add or subtract all point scores that apply.

General (Any class)
Inches from zone line: +20
Massive train: +10
You were helping someone when massive train occurs behind you: +10
Trying to solo something completely impossible and (almost) succeeding: +30
Causing a massive train, which kills you along with others: -10/person
Causing massive train, but dying before the train gets anywhere (thus only YOU die) +10
Having your "Train to Zone! message interrupted by death: +10 points.
Having your second "Train to Zone! message interrupted, but getting first one out: +20
Getting lost while trying to zone: +5
Getting lost spectacularly (IE going in the opposite direction from zone): +15
Losing camo or invisibility while in an area populated by more than 3 mobs over 3 levels higher than you: +30
Smacking into a door that has just closed in front of you in a cartoonish fashion on the way to the zone: +40
Falling into Lava: +20
Falling into Lava while trying to retrieve the corpse you lost in the lava: +30
Falling into Lava while trying to retrieve another person's corpse lost in lava: +50
Falling into Lava because you didn't noticed the levitation Icon was blinking: +20
Bonus for original witty remark on the way down (Hot time in the old town tonight and other cliches do NOT count, while "Wheeeee!" may, depending on review of death): +40
Actually zoning, but dying immediately on the other side: +100
Any witty remark ("It's only a flesh wound!" may result in a penalty) just before death: +20
Everyone else in your area went LD when the BIG SPAWN occurs: +40
...if you make a witty remark anyway, an additional: +10
...if anyone in your party gets back in time to hear it: +50
A heal gets off just as the LOADING, PLEASE WAIT message appears: +20

Healer Types:
You were tanking: -30
You weren't planning to tank: +20
You manage to get a heal off on yourself before dying: +10
You manage to get a heal off on someone else before dying: +30
The heal you got off is what caused you to die: +10
Everyone else survived: +10
Got bored and decided to pull: -40
(Druids only) Evaccing party and healing the member who's hitpoints suddenly plummet, not reaizing the druids and treeants around are responsible: +50
...if rest of party survives: +60

Caster types:
DoT'd self accidentally: -30
...if you manage to get an original witty remark off before you die: +10
...if the DoT kills you after you zone or the partie's safety is ensured: +30
Nuked Self: -20
...if you manage to get an original witty remark off before you die ("Oops!" or "D'oh!" may result in a penalty): +10
Repeated death due to binding badly: +20 per death
Lost level due to binding badly: +5 per level
Managing an original witty remark before dying: +30 per successful remark
...if each makes sense in relation to the others (ie Ack! This Really isn'thelping me level: +20 per completed phrase

Melee types (may include casters of any type who decide to melee)
Forgot to get buffs: -10
Tried to get buffs but failed (caster OOM or not available): +15
Manage to get a critical hit as you fall: +40
Getting trained while pulling: +20
Bringing full train to party while dying: -10 per member that dies
Bringing full train all the way to the zone, turning to fight, and suddenly realizing there are a LOT more than you started with: +30
Managing to bind wounds successfully before dying to the next train: +35
Breaking an enchanter's mez against their wishes: -30
...if the enchanter is really annoying and they get killed: +10 for each person who's game experience is thus enhanced.

Enchanting types:
Mezmerizing self: -20 points
...because someone dragged mob closer than they should have been: +30
Saving entire party only to be killed by all the mezzed mobs: +60
...if you manage an original witty remark about it: +20
...if you nearly make it to safety: +20

Leader types:
Killing new members within 5 minutes of being in guild: +20 per new member
...each additional death while recovering corpses: +10
...if the person is the bard tracking your corpse: +30
...bonus if it's a married couple: +5

Puller types:
getting lost on way back to group: +10
...starting huge train in the progress: +15
...eventually finding the group, bringing the train: +20
...bonus for killing every member of the party: +30

As you can see, this is still very much a work in progress. Of course, discovering all the nuances involved in the art of dying will be the work of many years and may not be attainable at all, yet I have undertaken to make it my life's work. Many do not understand this subtle art yet and seem to see each death as a bad thing, not the opportunity for improvement and character development that it really is. My personal best score on this scale so far is 185.

So, print this list out, all, and start working on your form! No more will death be reviled... soon, really good deaths will get the respect they deserve.

-1000 for standing on top of a banker's counter while turning 100 plat into copper...then getting killed when you walk off the counter.


Not that i've done that...twice or anything...
 
How about actually killing the mob on you but then bleeding to death after it's perfectly safe?

After all the stupid things I've done I'm suprised I haven't done that yet. I've always been very conscious about that.. But not conscious about accidentally hitting autorun with inventory open while trying to type to the group in a fight and falling off a cliff. Oh yeah :lol: That happened to me in First Ruins.
 
I have been wise enough to remap the A key (after all, I love wasd) but Auto Attack is my first hot key and I have hit 1 with an NPC targeted (thankfully was not in melee range :))

However, I did accidently cast root on a named guard in Erudin - yeah, i lasted long and so did having my spells mapped as hotkeys.
 
What about...

being at -8hp and dotted just enough to not kill you, but everytime you get a tick of regen you stand up just to get knocked back down by the dot damage?

Not really applicable here, but Manastoning yourself to death?
...the first time you use it?
...letting someone else stone to death the first time they use it by saying, "it can't kill you, trust me!"?

I'm adapting some of this to live....
 
Used to have fun in Cab.. right out side the bank would drop (when you still could) 1000 copper in the water.

Then sit back and watch some newbie try and pickit up and of course drown.
 
Are we supposed to answer each general question and make a total upon ONE death that occured or the whole lot ?

new ones.. most of them are rhetorical questions.. (assuming)
 
what about

Failing to train because your swimming skill was too low?
...then finding out there was a land zone out closer?
...then not finding your corpse in the water?
...then dying again to the same mobs?


Bards only

Singing an aoe song too close to an NPC thats more than 3 levels higher than you and friendly?
...and that NPC is a guard?
...and you were training other mobs to that guard?
...and this is not your first time doing that?
 
What about falling asleep while running through EK and waking up as your falling down the ravine. I swear to god my heart stopped for those few seconds... :(

...lose level to the dot...

...nuke self, crit, & die.
...nuke self & crit for double you current life.
...nuke self & crit for triple your current life.
...Nuke self, crit, gain low health aggro & die.
...nuke self, crit, gain low health aggro & die training the zone.
...nuke self, crit, gain low health aggro & live training the zone, but killing entire group. (+15 per group killed by train)
...nuke self to not give mob satisfaction of killing you. (+50)
 
This system makes no sense. Is it good or bad to be negative or positive? I got a 65 for my WR career. :(
 
Mod rods...

I would never sneak up behind a mob in a newbie zone and trade them a mod rod. That would have been wrong.
