Need help getting started, system requirements and the like

Howdy, all. It's been years since I played EQ, and I never upgraded past Kunark (and the CD is long since gone). So, first and foremost, for the purposes of Winter's Roar, which version should I see about getting (assuming I don't want to buy each expansion individually)? Everquest: Evolution? Everquest: Platinum? Some other one I don't know about? I'm kinda clueless, here.

Secondly, are the system requirements for WR any different from standard EQ? Assuming I go buy, say, Evolution, and my system meets those specs, will that be sufficient?

Finally, just to make sure I'm clear on this: I don't need to maintain an active, paying account with Sony to play at Winter's Roar, right? Just get the game, install, update for WR as per the website, and play?

Many, many thanks.

We mainly utilize up to Luclin, but a few zones from the newer expansions are used. Getting up to LDoN would be sufficient.

The system specs are the same as they would be for regular EQ.

And Winter's Roar is not affiliated with Sony, so you do not need to pay to play here. It's free to you (but of course not free to run, sadly.).

Everquest

The other day I was Shopping at Fry's Electronics and Noticed they had an Everquest package that said it included all the expansions upto Gates of Discord for $5. I might have read the box wrong, but that seems like they are clearing out their old stock for EQ2?
