I realize Necros / Mages are already focused heavily on the server. My wish goes out to the necro as a dark healer.

My thought is that one of the Dark Pact line of spells could be converted to allow the adjustment of certain other necro spells. More notably sacrificing more health per heal to others. Boosting dark empathy's effectiveness with life tap's present effectiveness would probably reduce the use of other classes.

The thought is the use of a pet with a heavily reduced physical condition on the caster to non-melee, the prevention of most DoTs but the Leach over time, enhanced dark empathy & retaining the ability to kill oneself to give mana to others.

The difference between this and the Shaman: the Shaman already focuses on the beneficial healing of other, but with a weaker pet. Cannibalize sacrifices others' health for mana. The conversion would simply allow the Necro [if he wish] to convert into a form that would allow him more greatly to kill himself to aid others through ONLY mana & hp, but killing his use of all DoTs but Leach over time.

Perhaps convert a somewhat not so useful spell like Cold Light to allow this conversion, but make it questable so that newbies don't grab ahold of it? Perhaps have a quest require spells be turned in that already would sacrifice hp for the char. Or perhaps even making the spell a money sink by requiring a special component?

I am not asking to defeat the purpose of Shamen, druids or clerics. I am simply asking for an alternate method of playing necro as a dark healer through a single modified spell while retaining the pet.

Thank you for your time. I hope its not a pain in any Arse to code. Otherwise, please disregard. [I realize free time always comes into consideration plus donations.]

well see the problem with that is the necromancer's lore has always been focused on primarly the raising of corpses. bringing unlife back to life. their purpose has always been to harm living creatures and manipulte the unliving.

giving them the ability to heal others or rather making DE stronger would nullify any lore that necromancers had up untill now, essentially making them a dark cleric. with enough healing classes as it is, it would make necros stronger in a field they have no business with at all to make them weaker in what they have always been good at, making the living decay over time.

your idea isnt a bad one, at least you're contributing to discussion, but my personal opinion is to keep necros the way they've always meant to be kept, the puppetmaster of the undead.

I have not played a Necro in quite some time, and not on this server.
On Live, which I know is different, my main was a 60 Necro. Some of us got bored, we'd go to the Hole and group. 2 Necros, 1 Mage, 1 Druid. 1 Warrior and a Bard puller. Between the 2 Necros, we could keep the Bard and Warrior healed without a problem. Granted we are RL friends and knew and practiced this quite a bit, but it was possible. The reason I could see this being beneficial here is because the server population is still fairly small and lack of Clerics, atleast mid lvl of the game. The other side of this is, when the mob is pulled, the Necro throw a Darkness on the mob, and mana burn the cleric, or throw a heal on the cleric when he takes aggro. If you're raiding in a open zone, keep the mob feared.
If you can't find a group, get a couple of pet classes, use the pets. I know pets aren't tanks, but a chain of pets one after the other can work very well, especially a Mage earth elemental with root. Like I said I know this isn't Live, but some suggestions that might help on your journeys.

While this is true, the point is not in making the necro stronger. I mention a conversion spell should probably make the necro weaker physically in resists, hp & whatever. A necro pet doesn't really replace a main-line tank, and I find chain casting pets to be pointless myself. Sort of like using the Taunt command to practice pulling mobs when soloing. [Which I'm glad WR seems to disable.] =P

All healing spells receive more than a 1 to 1 healing to mana ratio when evantually high enough. Dark empathy, I believe, stays close to that. I'm saying to EXTEND the size of dark empathy. Make it FELT more at the price of something precious: your own hp. Necros are the only pseudo-healers that spend hp to retrieve hp or the reverse of it because they are the masters of death. No pseudo-healer (other than DK & maybe bind wounds) feigns death.

The point is to make the necro weaker to fulfill a purpose he does poorly already. Take advantage of his weakness to a more extreme level, but only for those who want to quest for the opportunity. The point is that the pet will not replace a mainline tank, avoid chain casting pets, disable all damage over time but the Leach line for the conversion & enhance dark empathy by extending its use.

There is no improvement of mana efficiency. You can disable for a certain period the re-summoning of a pet while in the conversion and so forth. But we don't want it complicated.

I might be missing the obvious though.

In my opionion that would severly weaknes the necro class. If you use your hp transfer AND you transfer over time, it heals quite well.
