Naming Policy. How serious? Seriously...

Okay.. when I came to WR I was glad to see such a strict Naming Policy. But without even thinking about about the policy, I used an old old name from my AD&D days, Wulfborn. Despite the way it looks and sounds this was more in a tribute to the character Wulfgar than a combination of the words Wolf and Born. Anywho, I got many tells from players that I might be getting my name changed due to the connection. Without batting an eye, I decided to beat the GMs to the punch and simply restarted, since I was only level 5 or so.

I continued to go about playing and one day created a mage named Timpleton, a name that I think kind of fits a gnome. I quickly got comments from a GM on the /ooc line about how my name sucked, though he didn't change the name, so I don't know if he was being serious or just being a wise guy. So once again I found myself starting over. This time after reaching mid teens.

Since that last encounter, I have been watching the ooc line and have seen TONS of names that violate the policy, such as names from books, names of weapons from books, names that were more obviously made up of a combination of words than Wulfborn. Yet these toons are in their 30's, 40's and 50's.

So I have to wonder just how seriously the policy is taken. Did I restart two toons for no more reason than my own peace of mind?

You could have simply petitioned and requested a name change if you were that concerned. /petition .....Beats deleting the character.

It's taken quite seriously, but we're not omniscent, in fact a bit understaffed right now. Feel free to petition names you think violate policy.
