Name help please!

I read what you said about names. I was wondering if the name Hotaru would be unusable. It is a japanese name from sailor moon. If it can't be used could you help me figure out a name? Thanks! Just trying to follow the rules!

They're pretty anal about names tbh, and rather random. My advice would be to make one up, or use the random generator...
Of course, reading the actual naming policy would be a useful step on your half.

I wonder if Otharu would be acceptible? Play on the 'stolen' name, but original (I believe), and not a ton of people with names beginning in "O" that I have seen :)

That'd be like me asking if I can name my Halfling Samsagace because it's the French version of Samwise. Clearly against the rule.
 
I can't see Hotaru being all that wrong except that the name's Kanji means firefly.

But most Japanese names have meaning.

There are 193 countries in the world. If we excluded every name that appears in popular culture in any country in the world, we would all end up with names like Aaelailel. If the name is Gandalf, Megatron, Drizzt, or any other name that at least a minority of the geek world knows about, dont bother, choose another name. Adding to it might make it acceptable, like Organdal, Mergat, or Dritez might work for you, but do NOT try Gandhalff, Meghatrronn, or Driizzzt because it will get stomped. Hope that helps.

This man understands the naming policy better than probably 99% of the playerbase.
