Name advice needed

Flame

Dalayan Beginner
Sorry, I'm a new here. I read through the rules, but appearently didn't 'get it' when it came to the names.

The first name that I tried, was my old EQ name "Blackrain" but after hitting lvl 2 the name police cought up with it. :censored: After that, I did alot more reading here in the forum and learned that adjetives and putting 2 of them together is bad magic.

My personal dilema is that's what I normally do for RPG games. The names I typically use are Blackrain, Flame, and Blackflame...and these names, or ones like it, aren't allowed.

I usually like names that I can pronounce, and most of the ones from the name generator have no meaning, and are unpronouncable, or don't sound like they're for a human female, but more likely names of an ogre male.

Basicly, any ideas for a Human Female Necromancer that will pass the naming police? :?

If you like using the world flame, maybe a suggestion is to look around for words meaning flame in a different language.

That works, until someone points it out to us.

Then the circus starts all over again.

I saw a dude named Frozen today. Heh, I love it when I see names like that.

Edit - What I did for my shaman's name was take a dude's name from Live. Just think back to the plethora of names from your server, or other games you've played. It's easy enough stealing something, why bother even making up something original???

Just use a name that evokes the thought of flame or rain or whatever, and also fits for a female necro.

Some examples:
Flamsera (flame)
Deaona (death)
Toisona (poison)
Blacarta (black)

Just a thought I had... /shrug.

Perhaps, but theres lots of names that are based off names and stuff.

Aiden, for examples, is old gaelic for "small flame" or small fire. Not trying to debate policy, but I think that as long as its not blatant, as wtfmates and dorito, as long as it sounds like a name, it shouldn't be illegal.

Given that WR is cross-lingual, it's hard to say what is ok and what isn't in regards to meaning. A wizard named Fire is not ok, but is a wizard named Fuego ok? It might not be obvious to all, but if you speak spanish, it might be rather obvious. So is the line drawn at the "majority?" And so on.

Think of your character as being a real person. What would his mother name him? I'm easily amused, but on live when I saw a stupid name I used to image the parents naming the child.

"Honey, look at our darling child. He looks like a tough sort of fellow. Lets name him... Tank!"
"Honey, this child is so cool and refreshing, lets name him Pepse Colah!"
"Darling, it is this child's destiny to be a daring woodsman. Halflin Ranger!"

I really like the WR naming policy. 100%. On a more helpful note, I would like to point out that RL names are usually acceptable here. Think 'fantastical'. That is what I try to do. I try to avoid simply warping a desired word into a 'name-form', instead, think of a pleasing fantasy name that sounds good in your head. You may wish to be something like flameycaster, however that just isn't going to cut it. Another idea would be to look at your class or race. Can you imagine an erudite named Glunk?

P.S. I have always had the urge to turn in 1/5 of the entire WR populus for their names. I can always find a little reference to a word or a name from a book. MWA HA HA! :D

Well it's good to see I'm not the only who saw the guy with name Dorito running around.

Originality at it's finest.

Give me the Naming Police Baton and I'll clean up this town right fast!

best/worst name i ever saw was on Live, an Iksar shaman named Dark. it was actually impossible to find him using /who all without adding class/level to the search.

/ all dark always returned a list of dark elves =P

and if he was /roleplay or /anon he was virtually invisible unless you were in the same zone, was pretty cool

haha mill youll never find a reference to most of my character names. the ONLY one you might find a reference to would be my druid on live but thats another server and another story....im tired and since im tired i feel the need to make a nominal point that is just about useless.

on the main line of the subject though i think that names derived from different languages should be in all honesty allowed with a strong use of common sense. there are plenty of examples of names irl that are words in other languages and no one ever has an issue with it. spanish is good for this as is most of the romance languages. then again latin never existed in delaya right...so maybe try and find something in elvish? theres lotsa books in the game maybe find something there. as for a human necro...hmmm

Tirana
Elestel
Inhadria
Orinda
Shalana

i can keep going......just some suggestions

One big question in MMORG is whether the character name is expected to be a birth name or a nick name. If the latter, then a lot more names suddenly become just fine.

I am not all that original, and so most of my characters are obscure literary or historical references.

Willaena - from eq name generator Willawena
Lynet - Mort d'artur
Flarn - Bab 5
Regnad Kcin - Firesign Theater
Omsk - a kids book (and a city in Russia)

(I may be about to lose some names. Ah well.)

Consider that all five of the following were real people:
Tench Coxe
Victory Birdseye
Perserved Fish
Praisegod Barebones
Philander Chase

As with the other folks, I suggest that you plan to use Blackfire as a surname and start thinking about a given name that would go well with it.
