My screen gets brighter once I get to character select.

Once I get to character selection my monitor brightens considerably. It is tolerable, but my start bar goes from gray to white. SoD it self is brighter. As a human, I can see perfectly at night w/ no in game light source. This was not happening at first. It started after I reinstalled to log onto the live version to organize things, and continued after I patched SoD. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall w/o going to the live servers to see if it reverts back. (I'm running XP w/ SP2.)

Does anyone know what causes something like this to happen?
 
It's something called "Gamma" lol, and by the looks of it you raised yours to the max. Try lowering it down. While in-game press alt+o, and it's under the display tab.
 
Yea for some reason the gamma from EQW will affect everything you're currently running. Dunno why, or if there is a fix. If it's too annoying, and you don't want to lower the gamma ingame, just use regular windowed mode and not EQW.
 
Well the ingame gamma slider has absolutly zero effect. I can use the gamma slider on my desktop properties. However, this problem didn't always exist. I was wondering what caused it.

edit: also, using eqw is where this problem is, when I don't use it the opposite happens. the game gets too dark. it's like the game is confused as to what my gamma settings are.
