So yeah, I should be able to be on for the first time in about 2 weeks tonight. I finally have Windows fully installed and configured on the new SATA drive. Windows XP really does NOT seem to like SATA.
Another thing that's giving me problems is my Japanese text support. I may as well turn IME back off, because the only program it'll work in without extending support to all applications is Microsoft Office, and I use Open Office, Mozilla Firefox, and XChat. I'm hoping MS notices that they broke it soon so that I can get my IME back. Something about WMP11, IE7, and some sort of optional security update working in concert to make "Advanced Text Services" NOT work. I get a nice beautiful system crash when I turn it on.
Uhm... more things that suck about my computer... oh, my CDRW is dying. really, it is. And the interesting thing about Windows XP is, when it fails to initialize a detected CD drive, it refuses to boot... the wonderful world of Windows.
