Music Question

I was reading this - http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5183&highlight=music

I managed to find the original combat music and intro music and it was easy to replace the current and it worked..

I later found the following site with all the old music from sneaking music to swimming music, boat music to the old market music.
http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/0vg/PC-Everquest.shtml

Now I was trying to get the sneaking music in but seeing how currently there is no sneak music you cant just replace it like you did with the intro and combat music. I am assuming you have to somehow change a certain file telling it to play but I have no clue how. So my question is, is this even possible? If so does anyone know what you have to do to tell the client to play the Sneak music when you sneak?

I dont think its possible if the game isnt even looking for any music file to play.

I do think it's possible. EQ used till PoP the music files format .xmi (light and "cheap" format like midi). I didnt notice this post till now so I will be busy downloading those midi files and I bet there is somewhere on the net a .xmi file converter (a .xmi file player would be great too). I doubt just swapping the midi file by the .xmi file of the same name would work but I will test.
Thank for finding that website I HATE PoP era mp3 beside PoTime/earth music :D
On another note, I swear I heard the sneaking music in newport sewers and Thurg A/B songs are amazing.

So do I because currently when you turn on auto attack something tells the client to play the combat music. When you enter Freeport something tells the client to play the music. A file somewhere in the folder that tells the client when and where to play what music. I believe if that file could be found it could be added to telling it to play music on Sneak or when you enter a certain zone.

I found a great website with even MORE EQ musics in midi format

http://eq.jeuxonline.info/fichiers/fichiers.html

The site is in french but it's easy to locate the files, just scroll down till you see the word Musique in bold and download both .zip files since they complete each others with few repetition.
If you can put name/location on the files called misc and unknown it would be great.

enjoy!

I have found a way to enable the Original music in all its glory!!

For this you need the original EQ CD. This is a must have for this to work. (This may also work with the Kunark or Veluos CDs but at this point in time I dont know) But what I do know is it works if you have the original EQ CD.

Make sure you use the SoD Patcher and have all your SoD files up to date.

Here is what you need to do.

1) Find your OLD EQ CD, the original. Not EQ Gold or EQ Trilogy or anything like that, EQ the origonal.

2) Install it into any folder, I chose to install it into a folder called EQClassic. So for me it was C:\Program Files\EQClassic.

3) Do not patch your new EQClassic folder, leave it as is because it already contains all the files you will need to enable all of the old EQ music.

4) Within the EQClassic folder you have just installed you will find the following files:

(.XMI being Midi in compressed format, sort by type to get all the .xmi files easier.)

akanon.xmi
befallen.xmi
blackburrow.xmi
butcher.xmi
cauldron.xmi
damage.xmi
eastkarana.xmi
ect...

You want to Copy ALL the .xmi files from the EQClassic folder Into the EQ folder you run SoD from. From akanon.xmi to tox.xmi

5) Now that all the music files have been moved into your SoD folder what you need to do is go back into the EQClassic folder and find the following
files:

(All these files are in the EFF format so sort by type will make theis alot easier)

airplane_sndbnk.eff
airplane_sounds.eff
akanon_sndbnk.eff
akanon_sounds.eff
befallen_sounds.eff
beholder_sndbnk.eff
beholder_sounds.eff
blackburrow_sndbnk.eff
blackburrow_sounds.eff
butcher_sndbnk.eff
butcher_sounds.eff
ect...

What you want to do is copy any file ending in _sndbnk.eff AND _sounds.eff from the EQClassic folder into the EQ folder you run SoD from. Should be from airplane_sndbnk.eff, airplane_sounds.eff TO tox_sndbnk.eff, tox_sounds.eff

6) Use the Patchme method to enter the game and there you have it!! All the origonal EQ music is back and enabled.

I am not good at all at writing guides so please let me know if you are confused on how to do this. If anyone else wants to write a better guide on how to do this please go right ahead.

Also check out http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6005. Here you will find how to Enable Old Spell Graphics along with Old Skeleton and Wolf models. With the old music, old spell graphics, old Skeleton models, and old wolf models it makes for a pretty Classic like experience. Now just to get old spell gems and icons back.... hmmm.

Enjoy! :D

While browsing my EQ folder, I saw PoWar.mp3 and all the files related to that never opened zone (PoTactic took its place for the home of RZ). Would be nice to see it used on SoD. It would really be a NEW zone hehe.

Grachnist or anyone who has done Grachnists fix,
Does this enable the zoning music? I remember long ago when you would zone from gfay to bb or such that it would play a little blurb of music, different from that of the zone while you were zoning.

Next test.... qeynos bard guild... do you hear that awesome music or not?

Well after traveling around to test out what music works here is a list of what is working so far...

Qeynos Gate Music
Old Combat Music
Arena Music
Old Shop Music
Marketplace music
Karana Wizard Spire Music
Tavern Music
Rivervale music (woot!)
Karana Wooden bridge music
The Creepy sounding music
Kerra Isle music (On that small island between Newport and Erudin)
Freeport Gate music
Freeport Music that played at the gallows by zone to NFreeport
Ak'Anon Music
Felwithe Music
Kelethin Music (Standing by a lift, not going to go up there :p)
Kaladim Music
The "Winding Roads" music
GuildMaster music

Oddly enough there is some music that doesnt work.

Bard Guild music isnt working :(
Swimming music isnt working
as far as i can tell "Sea" music is not working.

Ive only spent about 45min running around checking the places I remember there being music, so i know there is alot more I missed.
I dont have sneak so I dont know if Sneak music works.
Anyway, if you find any more music that is or isnt working let me know or post it or whatever.

Enjoy! :D

Edits: Update to list of what music is and isnt working.

Would anybody happen to have a link to an Mp3 or whatever format of the Othmir music? That was my all time favourite piece <3

Thanks!

yep, i've converted it to MP3.. i did rivervale as well.. if there's demand i'll do other zones too..

if you've tried the MIDI files already you'll realise they sound pretty wrong using most cards' default GM soundbanks..

there are 3 soundbanks in the EQ folder.. one called synthusr.sf2, one called synthus2.sf2 and one called synthusr.dls.. i haven't opened them to check what instruments they contain..

i have no idea which bank(s) EQ used for each track on whatever hardware, so i've done it with each for completeness..

most of the time synthusr.sf2 sounds most like i remember them..

synthus2.sf2 is quite different to the other two.. it's a much larger soundfont too (almost 12mb compared to 500kb and 1.4mb for the other two).. it sounds pretty bad to me with most tracks (i've checked out a few others with it).. no idea when/if it was used in EQ..

synthusr.dls sounds good with most, but again a bit different..

you can judge for yourself.. i added a little bass boost and a touch of reverb to them.. they just sound better :D

enjoy!

edit: there are actually 4 soundfonts in the EQ folder.. there's a v1 soundbank (synthusr.sbk) but it seems to be identical to synthusr.sf2.. i reckon it's just a conversion of the same bank to v2 so i don't need to worry about it :)

edit again: i discovered that synthus2.sf2 is for the Luclin MIDI files.. they sound completely wrong with any other soundbank becuase many of the instruments seem to have been transposed.. i'd actually never heard most of these files before.. some of them are quite good, some quite different from the "classic" EQ score.. i'll get them up here in MP3 format soon :D

Which program did you use to convert them in mp3?

i actually ripped the .mids from the .xmis back in 2002 with a program called AWave Studio (http://www.fmjsoft.com/awavestudio.html) but i only started converting to MP3 just now when i read this thread.. :)

i used the software that came with my Audigy 2 (Soundfont Bank Manager) to load the soundfont banks..

i played the MIDI files through Winamp using "Sampling" and "Send to Winamp's output system" and using the Disk Writer plugin to dump the output to a .wav

the reason i wanted it sent through Winamp's output system was so that the mighty DFX (http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/) could add its usual magic to the resulting .wav files..

finally i used LameDrop to convert the .wavs to .mp3

so, a slightly overcomplicated process but one that works well (for me, YMMV :)

If you ever make archives of those mp3 and share them with bittorrent or something else, let me know ;)
Im starting an EQ rpg campaign after xmas and those would make wonderful soundtracks to listen to while playing :D

I actually have a number of the midis and few in mp3 as well as MOST oldworld sound effects in mp3.... did a little searching a long time ago and found em on a dead website.

I had all old world songs in mp3 format but shame on me I didnt back them up and my HD died few months ago. I got them from an eqemu site called CoE or something (a pre-kunark pvp style server) anyway I cant access their website anymore neither their download section.
