I'm on part four of the MQ where i'm sent to Heartlands to speak to Tesia, She will not respond me, to tell me to talk to the leader guys. I'm thinking that I must have goofed up and not knowing what i was doing joined a faction, is there anything you know thats possible to continue with the mq despite this?

Joining a faction before hand doesn't have any impact on doing the MQ.
Part of your problem might be following the Wiki and "skipping" over something important. Like talking to Seeker Gavin again prehaps.
