Mouselook Sensitivity Issue

Hey all,

I just found out about this server and decided to give it a try, I haven't played the Game at all since Planes of Power had just been released. I ended up installed the Titanium Set, with all the newer expansions. I followed the directions on the Getting Started page of this site.

When I get into the game, I have an incredibly annoying issue with my mouselook. When I hold the right mouse button to look around, my horizontal view changes are a normal rate, but my vertical view changes are an incredibly faster pace. The result ends up being that if I just try to turn around the screen bobs up and down as I am turning around.

If I use the mouse for anything other than mouse look, it works perfectly. The speed and sensitivity is just right. I find it incredibly odd that the only issue is when mouselook is being used.

If it helps I am running the game on Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I use a wireless USB travel mouse, but I have also tested it with a USB wired mouse and using the touchpad(I would have tried an old PS/2 mouse, but this computer does not even have the port for such a mouse). The issue exists for all the devices.

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, do you know how to fix it?

Thanks,
Chryzmo

edit: I wanted to also point out I have tried the game using EQW and in fullscreen, the issue is there for both.

I just finished reinstalling EQ: Titanium and the SoD files. The same problem still exists.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

I believe this is normal. To make it so with one move of your mouse you would be able to turn from straight to 180-360 degree's without having to pickup your mouse and move it back to center and start again. I have the same thing with looking side to side. I also had it on live so I believe it's intended, if anyone else knows more on it feel free to add.

Hmm, I guess is this is normal, I can't complain. It just feels awkward. Like in WoW when I hold the right mouse button and use mouse-look, the view moves like in any FPS, it's very smooth. Only in EverQuest(and only on this server) have I ever had this happen. I haven't tried another server in a few years, so maybe it is a "feature" now. Could anyone else confirm this?

The mouselook sensitivity differs from the Camera's point of view. In first person the vertical axis is more sensitive than the horizontal axis. Third person views are the exact opposite, the horizontal view is more sensitive. Definitely a feature.

Well, I guess that's interesting. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable this "feature"? =P

I remember playing EQ a while ago on Sony's servers and mouse look acted just like in WoW(or any other game using the mouse). Both axes had the same sensitivity. Is there anyway to revert back to this behavior?

They both have the same sensitivity, it's a bug in EQW, and I honestly can't remember how I usually fix it.

I realize this thread has been done for a while, but my problem still exists. I've ever reformated my computer and reinstalled Windows, but the issue is still there. I was reading around and apparently laptops can cause various problems. Could this problem be caused because I'm playing on a laptop?

I'm playing on a DELL Inspiron 6000:

2GHz Centrino
1GB RAM
128 ATI Mobility X300
Windows XP Pro

Does anyone know how to fix the mouse look problem I've been having? I've tried playing how it is now, but it's infuriating when I have to make an effort to aim my view at something.

Being that a screen is most likely 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, the up/down will always feel more sensitive as there are less pixels in that axis.

That being said, does this happen when you use the touchpad on the laptop as well? It\'s hard to tell you whether it\'s behaving \"normally\" or not as it\'s really a visual thing and we can\'t actually see what\'s going on. :-/

It happens with my wireless USB mouse, my wired USB mouse, and the touchpad on my laptop. What makes me believe it is behaving oddly is that when i use the mouse to as a point instead of in mouse look mode, it moves at the correct speed and nothing seems off. It's only when I used the mouse to look around that it feels wrong.

It may take a while, but as you\'ve installed from Titanium and not an older version, check to see if there are different values for X and Y axis in one of the ini files. It\'s possible that newer versions of the game\'s client read separate values of sensitivity from each axis.

I had trouble when trying to play SoD on a Titanium install and then I installed from Platinum and it worked fine. I think there are some values in the ini that are incompatible and depending on your computer\'s setup, they may cause you problems as well.

I downloaded the patcher from the Sony site. The link is in the SoD wiki. Other than that and Titanium, I've got EQ, Kunark, and PoP, but they are all at home. Using the patcher from Sony should work, though, right?

Yeah, just make sure if you're installing it to the same folder as the Titanium install that all of the files are gone from Titanium. I'm not sure what the problem is, so I'm sorry I can't offer a better suggestion.

Just out of curiosity, what is the screen resolution you're running in?

ive actually noticed my mouse sensitivity seems to change... ive had it where i cant even make it 90 degrees in 1 mouse swing and others where im passed 180..... not sure what would effect this.. i always just ignore it=/ if anything comes up id be interested in finding out how to fix it..
i play in a lower resolution, cant remember off top of my head, than full.. i want to say 800/600. but i could be wrong.

I too am plagued with this problem. It makes the game unplayable in EQW. And since I multibox, playing fullscreen is not an option. Please, if anyone knows the fix, post it!

Ok, I figured it out. It has to do with using multiple monitors, at least in my case it did.

I noticed that when the window overlapped onto the other screen, by even a pixel, the mouselook worked fine.

The fix? Goto the options menu before you login and change your adapter to the correct display.
