Most needed class?

Hi all :)

I'm very new to WR, and before I start leveling up seriously, I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on what class the server is most in need of, or what classes are seriously lacking -- mostly in the high end game (60-65) because I plan on playing longterm and frequently.

My main options right now are: Wizard, Bard, or Ranger, all of which I have played to 65 on EQlive... although I would definately be open to other options since I don't know how different the classes here are.

I asked in ooc and the responses I got were:
clerics "can never have too many", tanks/healers, wiz, and enchanter.

basically the same as EQlive :p ... but I figured I would ask here also. I thought maybe since this server has a much smaller population than EQlive, that the high-end of the server may be in serious need of specifi classes that may not be as popular.

Clerics are the most needed class at the high end. The way high end content is designed (except for a handful of encounters) forces this on everyone. But, out of your 3 listed classes, I would say Bard is least played on Winter's Roar. Wizard and Ranger are about equal in rarity.
 
If..

If you know what you're doing, play a chanter or a ranger.

If you're new to the game, play a rogue.

If you're in between, play a cleric.

All seem to be about equal desirability.
 
Cleric is also an option and I just may do that. My main concern with cleric is lack of soloability during times when less people are on or when I can't get a group (that's why I really like wiz and bard, good for groups but also have solo options when necessary)... I don't wanna be stuck with my thumb up my butt not being able to do anything while waiting on a group :)

Another question: do the classes in this differ a lot from EQlive, or only a little bit in small areas (like AA's). Do classes here basically play the same exact roles as EQ live, or are there any major differences in class roles?
 
Class roles are about the same. There are few, if any, areas that require the "Holy Trinity" of cleric, warrior, and enchanter. Usually druids make amazing healers, SKs/pals tank sufficiently, and necro/bard/others can handle the crowd control.

After all, this isn't a new game. It's still EQ; it's just better. :)
 
Don't think clerics are as needed now as they were a few months ago. Though you can never have enough I guess.

Wizards, Druids, Bards, and Rogues seem to be uncommon still, particularly bards and druids.

I'd go with a Ranger or Bard, and if you can dual client go with a cleric or enchanter on the side.

The Raid guilds are pretty much set on tanks. Always need more melee dps, insurance healers, and enchanters though.
 
We almost have more druids than clerics on our raids. It depends on what time you play, I guess. From what I know, ruin has almost twice the amount of clerics on most of their raids compared to Nightfall.

I've decided to go with bard -- a class I enjoy and know very well -- even though they appear a little bit buggy here, but that's no big deal. I played bard through some very buggy times on Live also, so it's nothing new to me :) The bugs don't appear to be severe so far, just mildly annoying.

Name was Dithyramb, but a GM ninja-renamed me to Lloupum while I was afk (cause Dithyramb is associated with Greek mythology...). I was only level 1, but thought I'd keep the name anyway :)

Well the other day I started messing around with dual-clienting, I didn't think my computer could handle it but apparently it does OK. So I think I might restart as a dual combo. I don't want to play a super common combo (war/cleric, monk/shaman, ench/mage, etc.), so I was thinking:

What would your opinions be on the advantages/disadvantages of the following combos?

Ranger / Cleric
Ranger / Enchanter

Obviously always having a cleric would be helpful for heals and rezzes, but it seems like a lot of people have dual'd clerics/healers on this server, and I was thinking maybe an enchanter would be more useful (and interesting) in the long run. I'm thinking more long-term, like grouping and raiding at high level. I don't intend to just be a soloer at all, but I do want to have that option if no group or other activity is available.

I'm thinking maybe ranger/enchanter might be a better complementary combo to the "tank/healer" combos out there already, and both classes seem to be less common on this server, but would it be a viable combo for leveling when I can't get a group or a healer?

I highly recommend you duo with some sort of healer. It will make things far easier when you can't find a group (preferably cleric as they're most needed at high end). A few possible fun ones, shaman/pally (buffs buffs and more buffs), enchanter/healer (supposedly works well once you get Dire Charm), cleric/ranger, cleric/monk (I'm biased on this one),.

In the end, any duo is feasible as long as you're willing to put in the effort to make it work.
